The DORS lady came today and took me off her case ( They had someone to help me with house work and to take me to docs and such) and she is referring me to the department that helps people go back to work by my request. I havent worked in around 6-7 years. I want to go back to work. But I dont want to loose my medicare insurance. I am also afraid of going back to work I havent worked in so long. I know some of you probably think this is just not right but I am scared of going back to work. Between my family and my last job I had a mental breakdown which took me a long time to get over. And I am scared. I do know what I want to do. Please dont laugh or think this is meaningless. But I want to work for a place like wal- mart. at the cash register. I dont think I can lift the boxes to do the stocking. Well I could but I do not want to mess my back up again. I think working at the cash register should be okay. Does anyone work at wal-mart or similiar type job? Any advice? Help? Am I doing the right thing?

Going back to work can be scary no matter how long it has been since you were working. I think that being a cashier is goal and if you want to do that, there is nothing wrong with that. I think you should do whatever makes you feel good. Good luck with finding the job. Take care Erin

I am not laughing at all - Walmart is a very respectable job! I had many jobs as a cashier and I always enjoyed it. I loved working with people like that and the best part is you don't take your work home with you. Sometimes it does get stressful though - if you have lots of people in line and they are all waiting, sometimes impatiently, it can be tough. I worked at Walgreens for a while and one Christmas eve I was the only cashier. The thinking was that no one would shop on Christmas Eve (we were open 24 hours - the only one in town). Boy, were we wrong! My line went all the way back to the back of the store ALL NIGHT, it was crazy. Luckily, I like that fast pace so it didn't bother me. All this to say that if you don't mine those crazy busy moments, you should be okay at walmart. If not, then try a smaller place, maybe a drug store. Those are a little bit slower in pace. Good luck to you, it's exciting that you are getting back out there!!!

Congrats RIE RIE!!!! You are gittin r done!!! Way to go!! I have a friend who wants to be a Wal Mart Greeter. She's a cashier right now and hates the stress when she has to process a check and there's a line and cranky people start making comments. She loves the job most of the time. She also doesn't like having to go "backshop" items when it's not busy... So be sure when you apply what your job duties would include since you don't want to risk another back injury. Of course you're scared.. you're human. Look at all you have overcome and you've come out on top. You're gonna be just great at this too!!
