Been lurking.. what a great site. My surgery is on June 26th.I am excited and nervous. Pre-ops this Mon. I am a teacher and today was my last day until 8/28 :>) It is also my 16th anniversary and we are going to the beach LBI New Jersey. I have not been on any diet persay. I did go through a few weeks of pigging out but now am just eating regular ( which is still too much) Imagining life without food as a comfort. Bought some protein...vitamins etc. ( my bmi is 67) I will be alone a lot the first week home so I guess I will be ok. Where you guys up and walking/exercising that first week? My biggest fear is getting my period ( its due) and wiping Uggh. Wishme luck-everyone is an inspiration....g

Hi G, So glad you came out of lurking long enough to introduce yourself. Wow, in a little over a week from now....you will be a loser!!!! I wasn't on a pre-op diet and weight-loss requirement when I had my surgery. I did have to go on a supposive diet (6-month) for my insurance company to try and prove my worthiness for this surgery. I got off my Pepsi pre-op..and that is really the only thing that I miss. I can eat very small amounts of protein/veggies and I have learned through trial and error.... when to stop eating before it gets to be just one bite too much I was one who did not do too much activity post-op. Normally they have wls patients walking the halls in the hospital....but rest assured, your're gonna just be doing good to get your protein and water in. Don't try to rush activities. Your body will still be healing, and I truly felt pretty crappy for a couple of months. Good thing you are a teacher and can take the rest of the summer off to recoop. Hey, since you are a teacher..does that mean you are gonna be correcting our spelling with a cyber red pencil??? Enjoy what my local support group calls "the last supper" and have a super anniversary/trip!!! HugsGinger

How exciting for you.. Your just 10 days away from the losing side. I was up and around right away, and I had a much larger BMI than you. I had no problems at all. I actually could have gone back to work after 2 weeks off, but I stayed home and enjoyed the time off. At first the mental part was my only problem. Thinking about food all the time, but that gets easier and easier. Now I seem to be more worried that I have enough water around then food. I got my period in the hospital, fun I know. so good luck and we all will be thinking of you.. Take Care, Lynn

Hi G and Welcome!! I had open RNY on April 7th. I didn't feel quite up to doing alot the first week. They will give you pain meds to take home with you so that will help some. As far as wiping..(I got my period the day after I came home) I had my grandmother help me once and I was SOOOO humiliated that I just finagled a way to do it myself after that. As for the crabs I certainly hope to be eating some soon(my parents are crabbers and live in Ga, originally from Maryland so seafood is in the blood). I've tried fish, scallops, and shrimp and all have gone down fine. I think you'll just have to see what your surgeon and nutritionist say. It will be a while before you can eat any of that stuff though. I was on pureed's for 6 weeks but it went by and I survived it. I just started eating salads and fresh fruit this week and BOY was I happy! I never wanted a salad or tomatoes so bad. GOOD LUCK with your surgery and please keep posting.. Hugs, Jamie

Hi and welcome to the board. Good luck with your surgery. The first week out of surgery can be rough. It really kind of depends on your body. For me I had and open RNY and it took weeks to be ok, but I was alone most of the time after a week and I was ok. My room mate had a lap RNY and within a few days was taking the dog for a walk everyday. She would not let me do anything for her at all. She was able to do it all by herself. I think you will be ok. Just listen to your body. Take care Erin

Hi G, We have matching BMI's. Mine was 67.6, but I've lost 9 lbs, so maybe a little less. I'm having surgery on July 17th. Welcome! Julie
