Can anyone tell me if they had leg edema prior to surgery, and now that you've lost all your weight, or are on the road to losing weight, did the leg edema go away? I'm worried I'll have this big legs forever. It stops at my ankles - in other words, it flaps over, i look like i have normal ankles, and feet. It's weird.

Michelle, I've had it for years. My left leg swells more than my right. I've also worn compression stocking for the last ten years to combat it. If you don't have them ask your PCP about them . Maybe refer you to a leg specialist to discuss them. I just started my journey but hope one day to get rid of having to wear them. But their nice. They also help fight blood clots. Mike

I've never heard of these leg compression stockings... are they by prescription? are they seriously going to make them to fit MY legs? My left is bigger than the right - I had cellulitis in that leg over 9 years ago, once it swelled up, it never went down that much.

Hi Michelle, Yes, I had leg edema and was on 40mg lasix 2x a day for 2 1/2 years. Due to this, they required an extra test as part of my pre admission testing. They did a leg doppler and determined that my circulation was fine and the edema was weight related. After taking lasix for that long, with the exception of three days the week after surgery, I have NOT had to take any lasix since my surgery 10+ months ago. My legs feel fantastic and they don't ache any more. Best of luck to you! ~Dan B.

I"m so happy for you, Dan. Your experience gives me hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel that is not an oncoming train

Yes Michelle, get a Prescription from your Primary. They'll also tell you where to go. Either a Medical Supply Store or a company that deals with False legs. Where ever your Primary sends you, they'll measure your legs and send out the order themselves to have the compression stocking Specially made for you. I wear mine all day, taking them off to swim & when I go to bed. But put them back on first thing every morning. I even wore them throughout my RNY hospital stay, even through the actual surgery.
