all I brought was as follows: a clean pair of underwear (for the drive home) cell phone hair brush travel shampoo and body wash ( if they are going to let you bathe) pillow to wear between me and the seat belt rubber tipped tongs and femine wipes ( I had to bend way over for bathroom cleaning pre-surgery so thought it might help after and it did. The feminie wipes were nice because you won't feel like cleaning much but will probably start your period ( alot do) wore lose clothes to surgery and just put the same ones on to go home 1 thing that didn't cause me a problem but have thought about it since. getting into my car took a lot of work. If you have a high vehicle think of bringing a step ladder to get in ( I am not kidding) also for the first 2 weeks after i used one of those long bath puffs on a stick to bath. It really helped not to have to bend over in the shower. good luck on your surgery, jennifer 361 / 237 / 1756ish

CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming surgery. I was told I was going to have surgery on Friday April 7th on Monday or Tuesday afternoon of that same week so I didn't take too much with me. I think the fem wipes are a good idea. The hospital I stayed in had wipes but they were thick and sticky. I wasn't able to bathe for the 4 days I was there so my hair looked like crap. I would suggest a barette or something if they don't allow you to bathe. I would bring: 1.) Magazines because you will be bored out of your mind. I was there alone so I was SOOO bored and I was up alot at night. I had some headaches and just restless sleep. 2.) Feminine wipes and Feminine wash (if someone is going to be there to help you they can at least wipe you off with it.) 3.) Hairbrush and something to put your hair up with. I was so miserable not being able to bathe but the hair was the worst and having to be wheeled out in front of everyone with greasy hair was awful! 4.) Your own toothbrush and toothpaste. The hospital provided this for me but it would have been nice to have my own. 5.) Panties: I wore boy cut Just My Size underwear for the longest time because they didn't go near my incision and they were SOOO comfortable. You will only need these the day you go home because you'll most likely have a cathider (sp?). 6.) For the ride home I wore baggy jammy pants (you know the ones that look like workout pants and have a drawstring waist?) and a BIG baggy t-shirt with my boy cut panties. My husband had to help me dress and put my shoes and socks on. One note: I wish I had worn diffferent shoes because of all the fluid they pump into you in the hospital my feet and legs were swollen and my shoes were WAY TO TIGHT..that wasn't fun at all. I would say slippers or something along those lines. You'll just want to be comfortable for the ride home and trust me you'll be sooo glad to leave that hospital you won't care what your wearing as long as it's comfy!! My husband wasn't able to spend much time with me because he stayed home with the kids. We had planned for my grandmother to take care of me but the surgery date was scheduled before we had time to fly her here so I spent four days alone except for 2 hrs with hubby, 30 mins with two different sets of friends. It sounds bad but really it gave me SOO much time to rest and concentrate on eating the way I needed to and reflect on my new life. It was BORING but it was tolerable. I read magazines, ate some jello and pureed chicken, walked as much as I could, and watched tv. You'll hear this A LOT but seriously every single day it gets better. I was miserable when I came home and still couldn't shower but everyday it got better and I was finally able to climb in with plastic wrap taped to me and tha****er felt so good and then there's the first time your able to sleep on your stomach again..that is WONDERFUL!! My husband just asked me yesterday if I'd do this all over again and I said YES! Now when I first had my surgery I was like "what in the hell did I do to myself" so it takes time but yesireey Bob I'd do it all over again. I'll be 3 months out soon and I've lost almost 60 lbs. My goal is somewhere around 150 or so. I currently weigh 238 down from 297. GOOOOOD LUCK and PLEASE keep us updated. If you have any questions or just want to chat please email me. If I think of anything else that might be helpful at the hospital I'll let ya know. GREAT BIG HUGS, Jamie

-Baby wipes are a must. -Saline nasal spray--if you're on oxygen, it can be very drying. -Mini hand sanitizer (like Purell). -Slippers & robe for cruising the halls. Make sure slippers are slip on style...you won't want to bend over to put on shoes -Ponytail holders--gotta be able to put the hair up -Lotion for dry skin & chap stick for dry lips -For the ride home I wore a loose fitting summer dress and birkenstocks. Good Luck! Phyl 414/335.8/???
