Approved, Date, need an angel?

I have been lurking for several weeks now and have finally decided to post! I received the approval letter yesterday for the surgery and my surgery date is July 31 (my surgeon's pretty busy!). I hear everyone mentioning that they have an "angel". What is an angel and what do they do? I know what one is in the spiritual sense, but why does everyone ask for one? Deb

Debra, an Angel is someone who has had the same surgery your going to have and have been Post-Op for at least a few months and pass any problems you might have. They will also check up on your progress and let us know how your doing and if more prayers are needed. What Type of the Surgery are you going to Receive? And what is your Date? Thanks for posting! I am scheduled for lap RNY on July 31. I go for my pre op appt. on July 14. I had to quit smoking (done), lose 35 lbs (almost there, but struggling right now after quitting smoking) and the usual psych eval, sleep study etc. I am trying really hard to wrap my head around all of the things I need to remember (do this, don't do that) and I am feeling a little overwhelmed. I guess I need to get a check list together. I know things to expect and more of what to eat will be covered in a couple of pre op classes I will be attending on the 14th, but I want to get ready NOW! I think an angel would be a good thing (as well as cognitive behavior therapy and a good ol' dose of Mom by my side ). I need to get working on my profile, it's a little sparse. Maybe I can share more that way too...
