Insurance Blues

I know I haven't been on lately, but it has just been too hard. I had insurance approval at one time, but had to switch surgeons when my old surgeon moved to a hospital that did not take my insurance (he had his contract pulled from the first hospital, but that is another story). The new surgeon sent off for approval before he ever saw me, so of course the insurance company stated that they needed more information. When a file goes under review like this, it is highly probable that the insurance co will take the entire time they have to review it and ask for more information (and have more time to waste). So far it has been almost 2 months and the insurance company still has not approved the surgery. I know they will approve it because it was approved once before and the only requirement is that I have a BMI over 40 (as you can see, mine is way over). I am depressed and angry about this at the same time. I know that if I had surgery on 4-17 like I was suppose to, I could have lost 50 lbs or more (and it is highly likely that it would have been more) by the time I actually have surgery. I know many of you have waited a lot longer, and I should not complain, but I WAS APPROVED and the surgeon screwed up - I (any many of his other patients) am paying for it! Thanks for listening!

I totally understand and it SUCKS. They show us with this surgery we can have normal, healthy lives... and when we're finally ready and convinced and even HAPPY to be going to surgery ... something we have no control over pulls the rug out from under us. Leaving us no other choice but to wait it out and hope for the best. There are a lot of people on here who had to endure this and more. Coming here seriously helps. Have you spoken to the insurance people? Perhaps if they seen your approval from before it would speed things up?? Hopefully we'll be losers sooner than later....

Michelle, I can't really say anything to help, but I want to send big hugs your way and let you know it will be so worth it no matter what it takes! Hang in there! Lori 384/237/199
