Where To Weigh?

With my high BMI, my body weight is WAY over what most normal scales will support. Anyone have any ideas on where to weigh oneself? I tried going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but their best scale only went up to 380. I don't have my first follow up appointment until August, and I'd hate to have to wait that long to see how much I am losing.

Hey Jim, Bless your heart... I know first hand how that feels to not have a scale that will work for you. I used to have to go to kmart and weigh on this scale outside the double doors. And mind you, shoppers walking by all the time. It was terrible. But my buddy Tanja sent me hers since she is so skinny now lol and it is a WW scale that is digital and I have been using it for a long long time now. I really dont know how much it goes up to but I was 397 before surgery and I know for a fact that lowes carries them. Worth checking into maybe. Hope this helps.... Hugs Marge

My family doctor doesn't have a scale that goes high enough for me either -- she actually sent me over to the hospital to weigh myself on the cargo scales of the shipping & receiving docks. I was later told that the diabetic clinic had one of those good digital scales that they use at the hospital and that I was welcome to go in at any time to use the scale. You could try calling your local diabetic clinic and ask them. Also -- I don't think most doctors know this -- but you know those scales where they move the weights back and forth and get them to balance etc. --- well they are counterweights that can be bought for the scale that hang on the scale to allow someone as big as us to get weighed. My other suggestion is -- to call your local hospital (dietician department I'd guess) and ask if they have a scale. I totally understand though - I can't weigh myself either and too embarassed to go use the cargo scales again!! HUGS -- good luck! -- Joanne

OMG Joanne that is terrible!! I can't believe your doctor did that to you. How could she? I don't know what your options are or your situation is, but if that was me I'd be looking for a new doctor. That was totally unprofessional in my opinion. Hugs to you. To the OP, I second the idea of calling the hospital to see if they have a scale that might work. The only other place I know of that should have one is Weigh****chers, but they'd probably make you join! I've heard of some people who use 2 scales to weigh, one foot on each with pretty accurate results, if you happen to have 2 around you could try that, they swear it works in a pinch! Good luck with your weight loss!! jacie

Hi Jim, When I was unable to find a scale to accomidate my weight, I checked at our local hospital. They allowed me to come in any time I wanted to get weighed and they were very nice about it. Just call and ask if they have a "high capacity scale" that you can weigh on. If they say they don't know, you may ask for the cardic rehab office and ask them. That is where it was located in our local hospital. Best of luck to you! ~Dan B.

Jim, I found a scale online by a company named Tanita that goes up to 440. Its reasonably priced. www.tanita.com. There is also another talking scale that goes up to 550. The model number is XL-550 and I am ordering one next week. You can try googling it. I found the cheapest price on Ebay from a seller named old will or something to that effect. If I find it i will come back and post to this board. I know for a fact that Weigh****chers scales (at the location, not the retail ones) can weigh me and I thought about just stopping by there..they would probably charge you.

I would go to Weigh****chers when they had free registration so I just paid the weekly fee. I did that a couple of times, but not something I wanted to do every week. Amazon has the Tanita scales too. Good luck, Steff

You know- I was going to post the same thing a little while ago!!!! I'm going to a hospital which isn't very far from my house, I just ask the Dr if I can weigh in there every two weeks because I've had surgery - and she said yes! I might also go to the local CLSC (clinic) I've had this problem too with the whole normal scale thing. UGH damn you normal scales.
