I would like to have WLS. My blood lab work looks good except my HDL (good cholesterol) is 37 and should be greater than 45. I don't have sleep apnea. My BMI is 52%. I just seen a orthopedic for my knees. He diagnosised me with PF Chondromalacia. Does anyone have this and can it help me to be approved for the gastric bypass surgery????

I dont know about the knee diagianois but the BMI alone should get it approved. Plus if your knees are wearing out because of your weight it should help. I got mine approved because my BMI was 54 and had a bad back. good luck love marie

I have Washington State's Medicaid. They have very strict criteria in three stages that must be met. I also have back problems but I am not sure if it is from my weight or not. What kind of doctor would I see for that? Thanks for replying Rie Rie!

Hmmm good question, perhaps you can call your insurance company and ask them - they'd probably be able to answer that. Sorry I'm not of much help. I know this is very random, but that is a very beautiful picture!

Thank you for replying. Your compliment made me smile. I really appreciate that. I suffer from depression and with my heavy weight I always feel so ugly. I am heavier now then what I was in that picture. I e-mailed OH that picture of my fiance and I to be put on my profile to share. I had know idea they were going to put my face from that pic whenever I would be adding to the message board.

I know what you mean, I feel ugly often. Infact there are days where literally the only thing I like about myself is my eyelashes. You name it, theres a problem!!! But you should always find something about yourself to love!! Always, even if it seems really hard. Losing weight somehow makes you feel confident and hopeful, it is for me and I'm usually the Queen of Gloom! LOL But you really are very pretty - even heavy I'm sure you are still as pretty. Sometimes it's just hard to see it yourself. By the way, I'm sorry if I don't reply right away - the place I'm staying for the next 2 weeks doesn't have internet (I'm at home right now) I look forward to hearing how it goes with your doctors and perhaps someday soon the WLS. Goodluck!

Each insurance company has a different set of criteria for qaualifying. I would call yours and find out what that is. For some the BMI alone would do it. I was denied with a BMI of 57 unless I had 2 co-mobidities. I had to wait for my health to fail some more! Alot of insurances though approve just based on a BMI higher than 40. Good Luck! Leeanne

Thank you for your reply Leeanne. I have Medicaid and they have such strict criteria to be met for each three stages. I will need more then a BMI of 52%. I think that is awful that they make you wait until fails you more before they approve you. I have heard that some people die while their health fails waiting for approval. So many health problems run in my family and I am worried about getting more health problems in the future and then having it making surgery more risky. Just doesn't make sense to me. My best to you, Debbie
