How will I feel two weeks after surgery?

I have American Idol tickets less than two weeks after my surgery. I'm trying to find out from others who have had the surgery if I will feel up to going or should I sell the tickets. I'm starting at 521 lbs and have never had major surgery before. BUT I work for a newspaper and was the official American Idol blogger for the season. We broke all kind of records and I would love to go to the concert but am trying to be realistic about whether I should go or not. Help! Thanks, Kelle

Hi Kelle, Are you having open or lap? I really don't know if you will be up to it if you are having open. I went back to work in two weeks. I wouldn't want anyone to bump into you and your incisions. Be careful. Take care, Diana 379/173/?

now keeping in mind that everyone is different, I felt like SH*T 2 weeks out. I had lap RNY and spent 5 days in the hospital, so the second week was actually my first week home. A lot has to do with your doctors diet but mine was pure liquids for the first 2 weeks. i was nauseous, tired, and sore, not to mention very cranky and depressed. Not trying to scare you, just being honest. It is up to you what you decide to do, but I would suggest you sell the tickets. Karyn

Hi Kelle, You didn't mention what kind of surgery you were having... Lap band or RNY? I don't know about lap banding and the recovery process, but if you are going for RNY there is always the posibility that if could become an open procedure. I fully exspected a lap procedure, which turned into OPEN. I have to agree with Karyn on this one....I would sell the tickets. Not to scare you....but as Karyn said...you feel like crap. I personally had a hightened sence of smell post-op. Smells of certain things made me I can imagine being in a huge group of people with all the different smells of food and even body odors and colonge. I could compare my post-op feeling as constant morning sickness. Again, I know others may go through recovery time like a breeze..but this gal personally would sell the tickets. If the concert was 4 weeks post-op, I'd say go for it! Hugs, Ginger

I'd keep the tickets. If you got them for free what's the harm in giving them away at the last minute if you need to? You may be ready to get out of the house by then. Hugs, Loris

I had lap RNY and felt great 2 weeks out, but I don't know if I would have had the strength to do all the walking that attending a concert might entail. You might want to try to get handicapped parking and a wheelchair. I would keep the tickets and play it by ear, just plan ahead for your transportation issues. Good Luck and say "hey" to Talor for me!
