LOSING HAIR...AT A RAPID PACE!!
Hate to do hog two posts back to back but I figured it was time to drop the bomb that my hair is no longer my friend. When I bru**** or wa**** or run my hands through it I'm COVERED in hair!! At first I was thinking okay this will be fine it will stop..BUT it's not and I think it may be getting worse. I joined a virtual hairstyle site and "tried" on several different styles and I'm thinking about going short. I hate to because even though the pic looks okay I'm afraid when it's actually done I won't like it. I KNOW my husband won't. He likes my hair curly and there's NO WAY in this world I'm getting a perm now...I'll be bald as a GA peach!!
The nutritionist said I'm getting plenty of protein and that this happens to most people with rapid weight loss. Several years ago I went on a crash diet and didn't hardly eat a thing and lost some weight and got my hair dyed and in the front I lost some hair and it NEVER grew back. I can see a little bald spot up there and my husband nor sister ever forget to remind me of that experience. When I feel that spot..it's kinda behind my bang line (it's not huge but to me it feels that way) I get worried. I DO NOT want to have more or for this one to be larger. My hair has gotten so thin. It's not just surgery over the years and all the chemicals it's gone from relatively thick hair to pretty thin. It's not as curly as it once was so I'm left with mostly limp curls and frizz.
HAS anyone taken the plunge and cut their hair?? Everyone keeps asking me why I think cutting it short will help. I'm not sure I have the answer..ANY ADVICE would be greatly, greatly appreciated!! If anyone is interested in seeing my new do's send me your email and I'll send them right out.
Thanks guys,
Jamie

Oh my heck, I know where you are coming from. My hair started falling out at about 4 months out..and I freaked. I considered cutting my hair short too, but rationed that If I pull back my hair in a pony-tail...it's just like having short hair anyways. I have had long hair for so many years..it's so hard to change..but I refuse to go grey!!!!!! My hair is just now starting to grow back in. It looks funny to me, all these little inch "spikes" sticking out of my head..you can really see along my bang-line. I'd love to see a pic of your new do! My e-mail is [email protected]

My hair is falling out everywhere also. Such a funny story about it. I called the docs nurse to see what I could do about it. She said nothing. That I was fine in protein and that it was a side affect of the surgery. Well I told her so she would realize about how much I was losing that I couldnt keep the bathroom clean cause of all the hairs I was chasing around that sink and tub. She laughed and told me to send my husband in the bathroom with a vacuum. I laughed with her cause if you know Bob that aint happening. Anyway I thought about it and the next day drug that old vacuum out. And tackled the bathroom with the vacuum. I got in their early in the morning before everyone started using it so it would be dry and put a brush nozzle on the end and started vacuuming the tube out. Bob walked by the bathroom looks in, just shaked his head and kept walking didnt say a word. It did help but I think it is something I will have to do every few days to keep the bathroom clean. My hair was already short as I cut it short before I had back surgery and the only think I can tell you is I love short hair I just blow dry. spray and rumble my fingers and I have a neat but messy look. Works for me cause I hate messing with hair.

Dont worry. My hair fell out too. I had a bald spot the size of Texas on one side of my head. But now its growing little tufts of hair. I will say my hair isnt as thick as it once was...........it fact, its downright stringy. But I'm holding on to it with all my might....(sort of like the size 7 undies that I will never fit into again)........but hey!!! you cant blame a gal for dreaming. Take care, sweetie!!

If you haven't already done it, add two supplements to your regime ... Biotin and Zync. These are what my nut had me add and my hair is back thick again. It takes anywhere from 1 - 3 months for the hair thing to level off. It's just a reaction from the trauma of your surgery and malabsorption. And yes, I did cut my hair off short, but then again I don't wear it very long anyway. I did it so I could cut down on having to do much blow-drying and styling and give my hair a break so-to-speak.
Hang in there, it will stop shortly, but it's scary while it's going on, for sure.
