I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones, but started having nausea and diarreah yesterday, 5 days post op. I'm having trouble with water retention too, it's really hot here and the doc has messed with my meds. I am probably at 30 oz water a day and about 20 grams of protein, still liquid diet. Smells are making me sick and NOTHING sounds good, I'm gagging on everything excep****er. I know I have read about things people do, but I'm too tired and sick to look. I do have a scop patch on, but it does not seem to help. HELP! Feeling this sick is so awful! Julie in WA

Oh NO! Goodness...You have go to get in more protein (more than 60g) and water (80+ oz) or you will get really sick. Do you actually throw up? Our Dr. reccomends several things to counteract nausea. Ginger drops or thinly sliced fresh ginger may help. Try drinking something warm about 30 min before eating after gargling with water. Mint, , strawberry, ginger, or chamomile teas are good (mint tea helps me aot) Not having enough protein can cause you to retain water. I was told to exepect loose bowel movements until you eat solid food. 3-5 a day IS NORMAL. If you are having more than 5 a day you should call your Dr. I am so sorry you are sick I hope you feel beter soon! Shellie

Hi julie first off im glad you made it to the other side! Way to go! I just had my surgery as well. Yesterday I started eating solids and boy was I happy. My doctor told me that at first you will not be able to get in the reccomended amount of water and protien. I wouldnt worry about that too much. Next week I would start trying to get in more. Since you can tolerate water make sure you sip alot. I am one that can eat anything so far. I was hoping that I would dump or something! I am just styaing hungry alot. Best wishes hope you feel better soon. Misty

Hi Julie, I had the same problem post-op. I was readmitted twice for dehydration. Believe me, you don't want that. I was so dehydrated that they couldn't get a vein and wanted to run an IV in my neck. I freaked. I had nausea so bad I couldn't walk into the kitchen because the smell of the garlic salt would make me gag. LOL. Funny now, but not then. I was not able to drink my fluids either. The only thing I can really tell you is just try to get some jello down, broth, SF popsicles ( I lived on these). Maybe some pepermint tea (that's supposed to be good for nausea). It is very difficult, I know. It will pass. Just keep your MD up to date on what is going on. They even did the scope on me to make sure everything was ok in my pouch and it was. Never did find out why I was so gaggy/nausea. My surgeon did give me a shot for nausea and sent me home with some pills too, you might want to check into that. The pills helped, but I had to crush all my meds for 4 weeks and that created another problem. It gagged me too. Ugh. Hang in there~~~!!!! Carmella
