NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT BEFORE SURGERY - HELP!
Ok, so back in March when I got weighed at the surgeon's ofc, i weighed 494. Well, my surgery is not until October. Anyhow, decided to weigh myself yesterday and I'm 515!!! i dont know what the heck happened to me. But now I am seriously getting myself on some kind of plan to drop the pounds, because I remember them telling me they have a 500 pound limit; I dont want to get there and have them postpone me while I drop the excess weight. I got out of control these past few months. emotional eating, etc.
anyhow, I have the Oxycycle I bought (arm bike at someone's recommendation on this board
and I've started using it, 15 minutes a time, twice a day.
Now I have to get myself on some kind of diet/eating plan, and am completely lost on what to eat. How about if I do a protein bar as a meal replacement, and/or protein shakes, and eat 1 meal a day? will that help me drop some weight? what do I eat for breakfast? yogurt? snacks - if I'm hungry - jello? I'm at a loss here - such an idiot. Never was good at dieting - obviously. made a nice salad for lunch today; and brought a nectarine and an apple w/me for breakfast/snack (at work).
I need some serious help. Will the combined excercise and eating right help me get there by October? I have 2-1/2 months! I'm so scared.
Just follow the post-op diet.... Protein, protein, protein first.... then some good carbs in the form of fruits and veggies.... AND lots and lots of water, aim for 100+ ozs if you can!
Alot of docs put their patients on liquiid only or OPTIFAST type diets for 2 weeks before surgery.... you might try that, but it will be harder.....
Good luck!

I weigh 453 and my Dr has me on pre-op diet of 2 protein shakes and protein of my choice for my meal and snacks. I can have a few green veggies too. The most important thing is to drink as much water as possible. I drink around a gallon and a half, but I know someone who lost weight drinking 3 gallons a day. Right now we can drink alot more than we will be able to later. Cottage cheese, regular cheese, meats, eggs, and a few nuts are all good. Watch out for carbs in the protein bars. I was told to take 2 multivitamins a day - one in the morning and one at night- and no fruit - and especially no juice. I hope this helps!

Well everyone - you are not going to believe this... I got on the scale again today (something I obviously NEVER DO!)... since I've been so distraught of my failure... and I am 2 pounds less than I was when I had my surgical consult a few months ago! The crazy talking scale I have must have been drunk on Sunday when she told me I was 514 -because today I was 491.6! I just got on again, with my clothes on, and was 493... I am not as big a disappointment as I thought I was!
I have definitely been scared straight and know what I have to do now - but it is also a big sigh of relief that I did not gain 20 pounds in 2 months and didn't even feel it.
