Good news ... I think LOL

So ... I got my van back ... no major repairs (thank the Lord), but the bill for what did have to be repaired and their labor about did me in! That was $280 I didn't need to have to spend right now! But I have to remind myself it could have been much worse, and others do have it much worse, so I need to be thankful. And ... I now have two "sorta" jobs. Who'da thunk that! The second job wages were to be paid for by a Missouri program to return older non-workers to jobs. It was only going to be minimun wage, but I figured it was only a part-time job so "beggars couldn't be choosers". Then I found out I didn't qualify for the job because my disability is $1000 a year over their criteria ... so I walked away thinking ... "well, ok ... disappointed, but life's not over". I'd pretty much settled in with the idea that I'd just work the one on-call job. Then, tonight, the museum director called and said they still wanted me to work, said the museum would hire me instead and bypass the state program, and upped the wage to more per hour! Now who'd have imagined that turn of events???!!! Things definitely have a way of working out and tonight you can call me a happy camper. (((hugs to all))) Myra G

That's great news! Sounds like they really wanted you, makes you feel kind of good, doesn't it? I would LOVE to work in a museum - I began working on my Master's in Library science, all with the intention of using it to work in a history museum, I'm a bit of a history nut. However, I found out that when I took classes I couldn't fit in the chairs and kind of gave up - I cannot wait until I can walk into a classroom and have no fear of getting stuck in a chair! Congrats again, happy camper

hey, i'm so happy for you. that's some really wonderful news. you must've made one heckuva impression on the person interviewing for them to offer you more $ and bypass the program. you're so right, too, about the repairs. dh just had his harley checked - under warranty - and the repair bill was still $700 plus. i'm still po'd about it, but there's very little, if anything, i can do about it now. again, myra, thanks for the update. and congratulations on the job(s). much love dorthe

Thanks, everyone ... it's good to be able to share good news with friends, especially friends who understand the frustration of obesity and the discriminations that get tagged on to it and of being disabled as a result of obesity's physical damage. To get to return to work is making me feel worthwhile again ... even if these are little on-call and part-time jobs. For me, they're the first steps back toward a better life. I appreciate your words more than you know. from Missouri Myra G
