You guys are the best!
Lori,
I think it is a great idea, as well, to join WW if you think it would be helpful. As Marge said, I joined WW 3 months after WLS and stayed for 7 months; I lost a good deal of my weight during that time, and I truly feel that WW helped me to avoid any major plateaus. It also helped me reform my eating and exercise habits when I needed it most. Please do not feel like a failure at all; we have to do what we can to be successful at this, and anyone who thinks simply having WLS is a cure all for obesity is sadly mistaken. I had talked privately with the leader of my meetings and decided to tell her that I had WLS; it was my own decision to do so. I had also asked her at one point if it was possible for me to become a Lifetime member once I reached goal. I knew it was kind of a sticky situation since I had told her about my surgery and didn't want to put her between a rock and a hard place, so to speak, so I dropped the subject. I continued to go until I got close enough to my goal to where I felt like I could handle things on my own, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I felt the need. It's a great place for support, and sometimes, quite frankly, I don't want to be known just as the one who had WLS; I just want to be someone who is trying to lose weight and get healthy. So, I say... more power to you!
Take Care,
Tanja
