My PCP's explanation on unexplained bruising ...

Just thought I'd toss this out as miscellaneous information ... the kind to store back and say "hmmm" over. Don't know if any of the other post-ops are having groups of small unexplained bruises in places where skin is sagging but I am/have been all along. I thought it was maybe my iron levels or something like that, but my PCP says it's simply the sag that's causing it. Ok ... so here's how he explained it to me ... bear with me as I translate it into our language. He said skin capillaries grow perpendicular (straight up) toward the surface of our skin, and when the skin sags any little bit, it pulls at those. In a normal situation, there wouldn't be drastic and fast weight losses, and the skin would have "time" to adapt to the changes ... but in our cases, it's too fast for the process. Basically the sag occurs too fast for the capillaries to adapt, and as the skin pulls downward, the capillaries tear, causing the small bruises. He said there's really nothing to do about it, and it's not a serious thing, just unsightly (but hey, he's not even thinking that my thighs are already SUPER unsightly so who cares what a few bruises LOOK like!). It was just something I was curious enough to ask about and thought I'd pass on what I'd been told. Hope everyone's having a great summer! from Southeast Missouri Myra G
