DRUM ROLL PLEASE
I got the green light to go ahead.
All they have to do now is get the ins. approval which I am sure there wont be a problem since BCBS does approve this surgery.
One thing that did sorta shock me was the nurse ordered a nicotene urine test.
Has anyone had this before?
Also to be honest with everyone here I did quit for 3 months I was doing great but my hubby still smokes his siamese twin his best buddie does too.
I begged them do not smoke in the house. Oh they had good intentions all gun hoe on helping me at first but then they started with thier comments about how I was going to have to deal with people in public ect...
Also the comment I hated the most from the buddie was "dont you hate when someone stops a bad habit and how they want everyone else too"!!!!
Trust me hubby and I have had many go arounds on this.
Sooo I just got so mad one day I said to hell with it and picked them back up.
I am prepared to stop again once I have a surgery date but worried about this test now.
I am not a big smoker maybe half a pack a day but know I can put them down again very soon.
BTW best buddie had me by the nicotine mints at Target for him to go on his vacation with his wife.
I asked him what are you going to do when you get back and your around Lee who is still smoking.
The answer I got was he would be ok.
Sooo we will see but I have let them both know they did not make it easy on me at all.

You should figure out exactly what your surgeon requires and make sure you are compliant. I have read posts from people whose surgery was cancelled, or at least postponed, because they failed a nicotine test. And you definitely don't want that to happen.
I would also suggest asking the nurse or physician's assistant whether being around people who smoke will cause problems with your testing. I suspect you get a different level of nicotine in your system from secondhand smoke, so that should not be a problem, but better to ask a medical professional.
I had to quit for my surgery, which I did with no problem. I live with a smoker and her cigarette smoke really bothered me right after my surgery; it irritated my lungs. Almost 11 months later, I'm still smoke free and intend to stay that way.
Good luck on your continuing journey -
