My medical drama

Hi Everybody, It's been awhile since I have posted here. I realize that this isn't a "medical forum" but .....my pcp called me in to discuss my recent blood-work. He says that I am extremely anemic and he thinks that I could have a "leak" somewhere inside me. He wants me to get a EDG and a colonscopy. In the meantime I am on heavy-duty iron (325 mg) and if that doesn't bring up my blood count..I gotta get a blood transfusion. I'm kinda freaked out right now. Have any of you guys been through any of these issues? I am almost 10 months post-op, and after some major health set-backs, I was feeling pretty good health-wise and very hopeful with my new life-style (115 pounds lighter) Now this. Has anybody out there had this problem? and how did it go down?...no pun intended. Take care everybody, you are the greatest!! Hugs and smiles Ginger

Ginger I'm sorry I don't have any advice to give you. I wanted to pop on and tell you to hang in there and we're all here for you. I hope things work themselves out and you don't have to have that blood transfusion. Please keep us updated. HUGS, Jamie

Thanks Jamie, How sweet of you! I wonder if my blood is all screwed-up from my post-op blood clot in lung thing. I was on blood thinners for about 6 months. My pcp doesn't think the blood thinners would affect it...makes sence to me..but what do I know?? Congrads on your getting to be stationed back in GA. Oh yea most definitely and I can't wait to throw my arms around her. She is a mix from the Killeen animal shelter and her name is Brandy. I know she wonders what's happened to us. When we left to come home at Christmas I had to take her out of the van. We were all packed in there loading our suitcases and she kept hoping in with us. She probably wonders what she's done wrong. My parents are SOOOO great to keep her for me. They know how special she is and a HUGE part of our family. It's been really tough being here without her. My son is 7 and we adopted her when he was just a baby and she was just a pup so they've grown up together. I couldn't believe it when I saw her at Christmas she's gotten white all around her muzzle. I keep telling my mom when I get home I'm taking her to Petsmart and letting her pick out whatever she wants!! Everyone needs to know the love of a dog..they can really change your life! I plan to volunteer with a rescue or shelter when I get home. I'm the type that wants to take them all home with me. I CAN'T wait to get home..course it would be nice to sell our house first so keep your fingers crossed for us. In my first email I totally forgot to CONGRATULATE you on the 115 lb loss!! Hey Twineeeeeee! Hugs back at ya!!! I'm so glad we aren't twins on this issue!! How are things now that you are melting away? Life is sure different on this side isn't it. Just think, last year at this time we were in the same boat...That wonderful, joyous time known as the waiting game...waiting for approval and fighting with our insurance companies Glad you posted..we just gotta catch-up on stuff..you'll have mail soon..miss ya! Hi ginger!! First of all congrats on your weight loss and I am sorry about your iron issue. I to have had problems with my iron levels and have been taking 1250mg of iron a day and my body just wont absorb it. I now have to have iron infusions for 5 days straight and then we will do lab work again and see if that helps, hopefuly it will. Are you only taking 325mg a day or are you taking that multple times a day? I aslo know that when you take vitamin c w/your iron it absorbs better so maybe try that, everything will be ok we have all come to far to let this get us down hang in there and if you have anymore questions just email me. Hi Nanette, I knew I'd find somebody with this issue! Maybe my pcp meant iron infusion..not blood transfusion....guess I'd better check that one out. My pcp put me on only one 325 mg tablet a day. I'll try more and this time with vitamin C..thanks, I am totally clueless here. Have you started your blood infusions yet??? How do they do that? do they inject you with iron??? again, clueless. Hey Ginger, What a terrible thing for you to have to go thru after all the ups and downs. But you are a fighter and dont let this get you down. You have done great so far and that matters alot. I havent got a clue about the blood thing but want to give you a big ole Ga hug!!! Hugs Marge
