How do you get calcium in?

My nut has us take Viactiv (carbonate) for the first month, then after that, we have to switch to citrate. Not sure why, but that's what's on the menu. (I'll find out next week when I meet w/him, as to why.) Nut also said you can have 3 rolaids first month instead of Viactiv. Creamy Bites are indeed citrate, I just bought a box. But they are not cheap - $8 for 30 - and you need 2 a day. But I thought it be nice to try the first month, then I'll move onto pills - no chewables! yuck!

Hey PJ, The creamy bites do have surgar in them, and have caused people to dump. You might want to try one of the liquid calicium citrates. I had the DS, and while I won't dump, my taste buds were really off right after surgery. I couldn't tolerate the liquid calicum citrates (b/c of taste), I hated the taste of anything artificial. I did find the BA chocolate lozengers not too bad. They kind of taste like that dry Neco chocolate waffers. A bit dry and chalky, but not aweful. You can also buy a pill crusher, and crush your pills and desolve them in a bit of water, but i think that would taste worse...but hey anything is worth a try once. Scott

Like you, I take the Bariatric Advantage chewable citrate calcium in chocolate. I am actually discontinuing my calcium supplement because I am switching to a protein supplement that includes 70% of the established daily calcium requirement as well as 40 grams of protein and only 2 grams of fat. The calcium in the protein shake (Micellar Milk) is casein milk protein and is even more digestable and "bioavailable" than calium citrate. Good luck! Tracy 303/166/135

Hi. Where can I find that protein shake with the calcium you are talking about?

Hi Michelle, I get them at Bariatriceating.com. They're kinda expensive, but I factor in the cost of calcium supplements that I won't have to buy. The chocolate is delicious. I have not tried the vanilla. Tracy

I'm lucky that I can take the giant Citracal tablets without any problem. I also drink Propel fitness water with calcium. It has some sugar (5 grams in a 20 ounce bottle), but each bottle has 20% of the daily requirement of calcium, plus some other B vitamins. Anyway, I drink a couple bottles of Propel w/ calcium each day, plus taking the Citracal. I also eat a lot of low-fat dairy products (yogurt, cottage cheese, skim milk, low-fat cheeses, etc.), which are an excellent source of calcium. Good luck finding a way to get in the calcium your body needs! Kellie

Hi Pj, I take (when I take them) the Citracal Creamy Bites and I buy them at Wal- Mart. They are 6.44 a box here in Hawaii. I am still not allowed to take pills (I see my surgeon on the 9th so hopefully that will change) I tried the ground up pills...OMG GROSS, I tried the liquid..ICK beyond belief and the NUT said the creamy bites were a good idea and she was going to start suggesting them to her patients. I've been really bad about calcium I have to try really hard to get it in like I'm supposed to. I've tried the lemon and caramel flavored chews and they aren't that bad. I think lemon is my fav, it tastes kinda like a lemon cookie. Good luck and let me know if have any good finds. Jamie

I take 2 Walmart 'Equate' Calcium with Vit. D. chewables each day. They taste like a mild grape candy. Not at all sweet and I enjoy taking them! They are not soft chews by the way.Highly reccommend Jennifer

Are the Equate citrate or carbonate? They sound good. I am currently using the BA Cinnamon. They are pretty good. I did not care for the BA chocolate and I HATED the BA Mint. My doc has me on 4 a day.
