Will I have energy?

Hi everyone. I am a couple of months away from having surgery, I hope. I have one more MD visit for diet and exercise supervision scheduled for October 20, then I can submit my MD notes to the insurance co., and hopefully be approved to have lap RNY in November. It is so difficult to wait, I feel so handicapped at this weight. My BMI is 50. My question is will I ever have energy again, and do you think the reason why I have no energy now is because of my weight? It probably is, but I sure would appreciate hearing from others. Thanks.

Oh yes definitely you will have TONS of energy. It might take a few months after surgery though for your body to heal and go through some changes but the energy levels will most definitely shoot up! As for the energy loss being from weight..I would say that 97% is from weight and the other 3% is just feeling so uncomfortable in our bodies. I mean it's hard to get out and do things when you just don't feel comfortable in public and it's physically hard to do move around. I was 297 when I started and I believe my BMI was 51 or somewhere around there it might have been 50.1, now almost 6 months out I'm down to 202 pounds and my BMI is 34.6 and I have TONS of energy. I still have my blah days but nothing like it used to be! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and please keep us updated! If you want to ask me any questions or just want to chat please email me anytime. Jamie Ps I posted some pictures on my photobucket site and it has my beginning pics and you'll be able to see how much progress you can make in as little as 6 months. I'm still working and still have about 67 more pounds to go. I do have some saggy skin but it was SOOOO worth it!

Linda, It was my experience that yes, you will find your energy! I went from being basically a slug, just doing what I absolutely had to do to now, so hyper that I drive myself nuts! I cant seem to sit still to save my life! My house is cleaner then it has been in years, my yard looks incredible, I run and play with the neighbor kids, and still have the energy at night to take my dogs for a walk! Im just 13months out from surgery. I went from 328 down to 141 today.. A weight loss of 187lbs.. It wasnt always easy, there were times it was completely horrible- but it was worth it. I still have days when I dont feel like doing anything but they are far and few between.. Good luck.. Post and let us all know how things are going with you. We are always here for support and to give whatever advice we can! Amber

Energy is a funny thing. If I look at my activity level today, clearly I have a ton more energy. But I don't feel it so much. In fact, my heart hasn't quite adjusted to the weightloss yet, and my blood pressure is so low I sometimes feel faint. So I answer this question from how I feel, I'd say no. But if I answer it based on how much more I do and how much more I am capable of, then my energy is through the roof. Its a funny thing, energy.

The best part of the surgery is the energy level you have once you lose a couple of hundred.
