happy sunday! i'm posting again today to ask for prayers and support. one week from tomorrow i'll be in surgery to fix an ongoing issue with Menier's disease. i was diagnosed about five years ago. it affects my inner ear - thus my hearing and balance. lately it started flaring up again so i went through the meds course with steroids (worrying about my pouch, too) as well as my meniett device and anything else i could throw at it. the results have been less than wonderful. the next step is surgery. so they'll be cutting the nerve to my inner ear. i'll be in the hospital for a couple days. off work for a couple weeks. and readjusting to my lack of balance for a few months. the main drawback to the surgery is that i'll never be able to hear in my left ear at all. the good news is that the surgery has a 96-98% cure success rate. i won't be getting dizzy, nauseous, etc... anymore. i won't have to deal with tinnitus since i won't be able to hear. i won't have to constantly take valium, meclizine, diuretics, to control the symptoms. life is certainly full of tradeoffs, isn't it? so i'm asking for prayers, as before, for a successful surgery. skill for my surgeon's hands - apparently there's facial nerves involved - and a speedy recovery. thanks, in advance, for any and all support. i truly appreciate it. hugs to all dorthe

Dothe, sorry to hear you need to have this surgery. Life is indeed full of tradeoffs; even so, it's a shame you have to sacrifice the hearing in your left ear in order to restore your inner ear back to where it isn't making you sick and dizzy all the time. You can bet I'll send prayers your way! Is your surgery in the morning or the afternoon? Kix

My DH has this in his right ear.... it's progressed to the point that he can't hear at all out of that ear.... His doc talked about an implant that would basically let him hear in stereo in his left ear.... He hasn't been to the doc in ages about it, I don't know if he's just decided he can live with it, or if he's just a big scaredy cat when it comes to surgery.... Anyway, I can sympathize for you and I'll keep you in my prayers.... Hugs, Karen

Dorthe, My Mom had the surgery for this several years ago, and she is feeling so much better, yes she has loss her hearing in that ear, but no more dizziness, and getting sick with no warning. She is able to drive again, she couldn't before because she never knew when it would hit her. You will do great, she is very glad she had the surgery. Good luck, Lynn

Prayers your way. I had awful vertigo for years and they thought I had meineres but I never lost my hearing and than God I am better. No One knows what that dizziness is like until they have had it. I could not even lay in bed and move my head. I pray the surgery will work for you. Pam
