Hi B, I don't feel like I have an obsession about my weight, call it a preoccupation! For many years I did not care what I looked like, I cared nothing about how often I bathed, or whether or not I wore makeup, if my clothes were torn or dirty...see the pattern here? Today, I bathe daily, I wear nice clean and untorn clothing, I wear makeup and basically care for myself a whole lot more. My weight is important to me..the numbers reflect my health. I went from merely exsisting, to LIVING! If it means I must focus on the scale numbers, so be it! I must become healthy and that means the lowest number possible. Hugs, Donna

Here's a big dose of encouragement for you, Donna! You've made fab-u-lous progress on your journey, but those of us who start out in the 400 pound range have a longer road to travel than folks who start out in the 250-300 pound range. If you set your mind on reaching goal, then you will be able to do it! I just had my one-year follow-up appointment with my surgeon (actually with one of his fellows). Anyway, he said that basically the "honeymoon" is over and how much more I lose will depend on how hard I work. I still have my "tool" in the form of my pouch, but now it's all about controlling my calories, sticking with the exercise, and getting in plenty of protein and fluids. I've lost 172 pounds in my first year and would like to lose another 50-60 pounds. I've also accepted that it may take me another year to do that because I lose much slower these days. But I'm okay with that; life is a journey, not a destination. And my life will not miraculously be better because I make it to goal. But it's something I want and that I'm willing to work for. Anyway, I'm just rambling on now, so will bring this to a close. YOU CAN REACH YOUR GOAL!!!!! Go for it Kellie Lap RNY 10/25/2005 396/224/165?

EMT, Congrats on your loss, Just be patient, and use the tool you've been given. 1 question, though. Does SSMO indicate a BMI greater than 60? I honestly don't know. Anyway I was SMO w/a BMI of 52, and now only seven pounds from goal. The pounds don't fall off quite as fast now, but the basics still work here, maybe a little too well. Stick with it! Good health, Doug 382/187/180 P.S Your jokes on the "other" board are hilarious

Hehehe thanks Doug, I love that "other" board YOu are right, the pounds come off slowly now. I average about 11-13 pounds a month, and I am satisfied with that number. Congrats on being so close to goal hugs, Donna

Donna, I started out at 384, lost 20 lbs before surgery. I have lost around 150 lbs...but, really fear I'm not going to lose more. I've been fluctuating between 233 and 237 and doing this for about 5 months. It drives me crazy. I look good. I exercise like a maniac. Which is probably my saving grace. I really feel "fit" for the first time in my life. I'm wearing a size 16, which never seemed possible...but, I really really want to get to 199! I'm still considered obese at this point. Anyway, this probably hasn't helped you, but, you are not alone in your frustrations! Lori

My sister started at about 340 and is now a size 4. It took her about a year and a half. Here is a link to her profile. http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/profile.php?N=S1086064010

Hi Donna! I started out around 54 BMI, SMO and mortified at myself for getting myself there. I just had my one year anniversary of RNY last month and yes, thank God, have met my goal of 145. I don't consider myself finished though, I have a lot of lose skin and have lost a lot of muscle tone. I'm trying to exercise religiously now, which I should have been doing all along, and walk 3-4 miles daily. I hope to lose about 8-10 lbs of skin when I go for some type of tummy tuck, hopefully soon. So yes, it can be done. And lately I've run across many SMO to "normal" success on the before and after pictures. Some that started out higher than me and are in the 130's!! It just takes constant focus on the goal and a positive attitude, and I think, patience!!! My biggest regret along the last year was that I didn't exercise regularly. Other than that, I drank the water daily, ate what I was advised to eat and took the supplements. Lately I've been getting a little too brave with sweets so I'm working on that, but in the first 10 months I didn't touch chocolate and really had a strong will with it, now it's slowly becoming my friend again!!! Hang tough - you can get there. Just try not to beat yourself up when you have bad days. Congratulations on your loss so far - you are doing WELL!!!!!!!!!!! Good for you! Remind yourself once in a while how far you've come, then look forward again and keep on going!! Have you seen the posts or profile of Cynthia Snyder?? That girl is amazing, she will inspire you for sure!! Take care and good luck as you continue your journey!! Jeanne in Miami 317 highest/289.5 day of surgery/145 goal/145 now praise God
