fatty liver.......
Hey Becky,
I think when ya are our size most of us do have oversized livers.. My dr which was Duncan out of atl refuses to do it open. He warns you that if your liver is to large to get to the area he needs to do it lap he will sew you up and send you on your way to another surgeon. So he makes sure he tell ya. Ugh.. That was one of the most stressing parts of my time having WLS. So losing all you can before surely helps. They say the liver shrinks like a sponge when you lose and can expand when you gain. So try all you can. I know it will be hard.
Hugs Marge
I also had a fatty liver, and my surgeon required a two week liquid diet pre-op to help shrink the size of the liver. This makes it easier for them to work around it. I was able to have it done lap.
The first few days were hard on the diet, but then it gets easier, just think it's all to help you!
Best wishes to you!
Jan
I've got a BMI of 50, but I'm having the LAP RNY. Last appointment with the doctor he told me to go on a high protein, zero carb diet. The first few days were torture, but I'm doing much better now. In addition to high protein, I've also added protein shakes. I drink Atkins (only 5 grams of sugar).
Good luck on the 20th.
Becky, my surgery is also scheduled for Wed. the 20th. I think my BMI is 64, but my surgeon did not say anything about trying to shrink my liver. I have heard of people being required to be on a liquid diet prior to surgery. I know my surgery will be open since I had mesh added to a previous hernia surgery. Best of luck to you. I trust your surgery will go smoothly and your recovery will be without any problems. I am so ready to start this new journey. I am so miserable and tired of being in pain every day. Keep in touch.
