No Energy-Still

I am 15 months post op and have never had any more energy than I did post op. My labs are great, I get all my fluids, protein, vitamins, calcium, etc daily. I exercise daily too, but I still have less energy than a slug. I have lost 188 pounds, and have hit a major stall. In the past 3 months I haven't gained, but I haven't lost either. I still drink my protein drink for breakfast, have 2 snacks throughout the day, eat my main meal at lunch, have a lighter meal for dinner and another protein drink in the evening. I did solve the "constantly constipated" problem finally. I simply have a cup of coffee which I had given up because I have more splenda and milk than coffee in the cup. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Hugs, Janie

Hi Janie!!! I hear you sister!!! LOL I feel the same way but actually you are doing much better than I am as far as your "rules"....I am now getting a B-12 shot every month...It seems to be helping me, but I still have my moments. My boyfriend said to me the other day...."hey baby.. lets walk over there to the other store", and I told him NO WAY~!!! That's too far, I still weigh 426!!!! NOT!, but I feel like it. So we drove across the parking lot. LOL My MD says everything is fine, bloodwork and all. Somedays I just have to make myself "get up" off the couch. Other days I can't stop. I hit the longest stall now for about 3 months...and I have now started to lose again. I have lost 12 more pounds since 12/11. !!!!! I am happy about that. I thought I was done. I'll check back for the magic answer!!! Best Wishes! Carmella

Did you/do you have sleep apnea? SOmetimes it is not resolved with weight loss even though it will improve. I think 80% of us smo's have it before we loose weight anyway. Also, Are you exercising? If you have lost muscle mass then your metabolism slows down and you get less energy. How much protein do you take in a day? I have to have 90g a day for my height and if I don't I feel it. I hope you improve quickly. I am 5 months out and down 100 lbs and I can walk soooooo much better than I could before and once I could barely get in and out of the car! Shellie

Shellie, No sleep apnea, I exercise daily and take in between 120-150 grams of protein. I am going to make an appointment with my pcp asap and let them run some bloodwork. I had half my thyroid out in 1989 and teh last time they checked my t**** was fine, but you never know. Hopefully it is something that is easily remedied. Hugs, Janie

Shellie, I had my surgery just a month ago so I hardly feel qualified to say anything to you but I just had my meeting with a nutritionist and I remember something that she said. I am struggling to get my 70 grams of protein in each day and one day I had 105 g. She said that was ok that I was over 100 g. that one day since I was deficient on other days. She said not to go over 100 on a consistent basis since it is too hard on your kidneys. You may still want to meet with your pcp and have bloodwork done, but you may also want to sit down with a nutritionist familiar with WLS and discuss what levels you should be getting. Good luck. Janie, No specific suggestions about the low energy, but wanted to suggest that you may need to mix things up to start losing again. Our bodies (before and after surgery) can get accustomed to eating the same things, or doing the same exercises all the time. Almost like our bodies know what to expect, so they process it more efficiently (just what we don't need, right?). Anyway, just wanted to suggest that you may see some results if you mix up the timing and/or composition of what you're eating. But keep up that protein, and enjoy that morning coffee Good luck - Kellie

Janie, I am not sure what to tell you. I don't have boundless energy the way some WLS patients describe, but, I have more than I used to. Please let us know what your doc says. Hugs, Lori
