Hello all...

Hello, I have been useing this site for over a year, and just now found out about this forum.  I usually stick to the NM and AZ pages, but feel this forum is where I belong.  I have a BMI of 74 and I think it is hard for those with a BMI lower than 50 to appreciate our particular issues, because lets face it, the bigger you are, the more problems (and the more intense) they are...  Atleast that's my experiance.   I am hopeing to have my surgery this summer, but might have to wait until October.  My Surgeon has had some personal issues arrise causeing some major scheduleing nightmares.  Officially my date is scheduled for 10-3-07 (bumped from 5-3-07), but they are trying to get me in sooner. I found out a few weeks ago that I am going to be a Father!!!  I am scared and excited at the same time.  I really want to get on the looseing side asap so I can be recovered by the Sept.  Due date.   I look forward to getting to know some of you.  Pray for my wife and unborn child, as they are my everything... Richard I

Welcome!  We'll do our best to make you feel right at home! I had lap RNY here in CO last August.  My highest BMI was around 90, but I lost some weight pre-op, so I don't remember what it was on surgery day.  I weighed 407 lbs on surgery day, and weigh 300 today.  I sailed through surgery, and hope yours will go just as smoothly. Congratulations on your impending fatherhood!  I admire people who take on parenthood, I'd faint from fear if I had to be a parent.  Is your wife having an easy pregnancy? Don't you just hate it when surgeons' personal lives interfere?  My surgeon wouldn't schedule me for last June because he was going to be on vacation.  Of all the nerve!  How dare he take a vacation?  Kix

Yes those Doctor's have nerve don't they?

Seriously though, My surgeon is awesome, and is trying very hard to fit me in somewhere.  I cannot believe how hard these people are working for me.  I hope when all is said and done, I have as good a result as you.  Pray for me, and my wife...  and For Doctor Blackstone. Thanks, Richard

Thank you, I am Struggling to come to terms with everything that has been going on.  What with the new baby, all the Doctor visits (mine and my wifes), School, Work (and lack there of)...  I have had a busy schedule and mind.  Still...  I am happy and excited...  I have more reason now than ever to get healthy... Thank you for the warm welcome.  I am usually a bit timid so I am not sure I am up to the task of keeping the women in line...  I am just glad to have a place where people know what I mean when I say my ankles hurt...  Lower BMI people say ohh yeah it sucks...  I could only walk a few miles...  A few miles!!!  When my ankles hurt I am lucky to make it to the front door...  Long story short, I am happy to have found people who understand and appreciate my situation. Thanks... Richard

greetings richard

it's nice to meet you -- welcome to the bmi over 50 board. everyone here is friendly, and has a wealth of information to share.

i, myself, am 2 years out from an open rny. my starting bmi was 66.4 - currently it's 26.8 (something that STILL amazes and astounds me!) i'm striving to hit that NORMAL bmi number. congrats on the pending fatherhood -- hope to see you around the board frequently. deb -276

That is exactly the kind of thing I am talking about.  I sit down to go to the bathroom...  and don't use a seat, because they break, and because I prefer the bigger opening...  But I am a guy and other guys don't get that I never go standing up...  it is just too messy.  I cannot wait to go standing up again... Thanks for the welcome...  and good luck on the comming surgery, Keep me posted. Richard
