I'm on vacation this week, all except for Wednesday, I have to work on Wednesday.  I'm taking a mental health vacation as my job has been driving me bonkers and I have been letting stuff pile up at home I need to get taken care of.  Today, I went to a 60 min 9am Jazzercize Circuit Class.  Felt so good to go exercise at 9am!  If I didn't work, that would be my preferred time!!!! What did you do to move your body today? Lori

Tricie, I'm with you.  DST is so hard to get used to! Stay with 15 mins on the eliptical for at least a week before you add time.  At least , that is what my trainer tells me. Great to have you in the gym! Lori

My monthly WLS support group meeting was this morning (bright and early the day after springing forward-- what a cruel trick!), and the van was late, so I had to practically run from the van to the registration desk to the classroom.  Good thing my walker has wheels! My WLS group leader was excited when I mentioned I was starting to exercise at the rec center.  "How long has it been since you were on a treadmill?!"  I had to think about it, and realized it has been at least a decade, if not longer.  Progress can be measured in many ways, though we tend to measure it in terms of what the scale tells us. My sibling and I have joined the local rec center, so we will head over there for some exercise when she gets home from work.  I plan to do some treadmill walking and some work on the armbike. Kix, Thanks for the reminder that we can measure success in other ways than just by the numbers on the scale.  It is easy to forget that sometime.  Today was hard for me as I did the jazzercise class.  I'm still not comfortable working out in a room full of mirrors.  I just kept thinking how bad all my excess skin looked...when I should have been focusing on the fact that I could do the damn class!  I sure couldn't even dream of it before! I was back at the pool this morning.  As the mornings are getting warmer, the pool is getting crowded with everyone who didn't want to come in the cold.  The MWF class is easier than the TThS class, and that brings out more people as well. It was nice to be out in the sunshine -- I'm getting a TAN - even on my LEGS!  I cannot believe that I go to a public pool each day to exercise and show my body there.  WLS is healing in that way because my suit is getting WAY big, and my legs are getting much smaller. I'm amazed at how far things have come in just a few months.

Jennie, For at least the first year the amount of shrinkage of the body is so utterly amazing.  Get yourself a new swimsuit now.  Buy one that is tight, it won't be for long! Lori

Hey, Lori, I lifted weights at lunch today for upper and lower body.  I've been lifting weights 2x a week for 6 weeks now and can already see/feel a difference in my muscle tone.  Can't wait to see what I'll look like by summer!  (Of course, I have to pull the excess skin tight to see what's going on under there, but I'm okay with that.  Nothing that a bit of plastic surgery won't fix when I reach goal and am able to maintain for a while!) I'm going to the gym for cardio after work - will aim for 40 minutes on the elliptical trainer.  Some days when I've lifted weights at lunch, my legs are too tired for a full 40 minutes.  Anyway, I'm going to try for 40!!!! Good luck to everyone finding the time and motivation to move today -  Kellie

Kellie, I truly feel that the strength training does the very most for changing your shape.  The cardio is so important, it just doesn't change the look of the body the way strength training does.  The ideal fit person has great cardio ability, strength trains regularly and also is flexible.  That is the part I still need to work on the most.  My flexibility could be better. Good for you! Lori

Thanks for your additional thoughts on this, Lori.  I think you're right about strength training really helping change the way our bodies look.  I've only been lifting 2x per week for 5-6 weeks now and can already see a difference.  I want to develop a nice shape and good muscle tone so that when I'm ready for plastics, I'll have a shape that's just ready to be revealed!

I'm still trying to find time to add a good stretching routine to my schedule.  I bought an am/pm stretching DVD from amazon.com.  It has two 30-minute programs - one for morning, one for evening.  So far, I haven't managed to squeak time out of my already overbooked schedule to do this even once!  But I am determined to find time to add this much-needed component to my workout schedule!!!  I'll let you know what I think of the DVD after I try both routines - perhaps it's something that could be helpful to you as well.
