Man, am I enjoying my time off?  You bet.  Yes, I'm filling my days with lots of things I need to get done, but, it feels so good!  Today, I'm taking my 2 long hair cats in to get shaved.  I can't wait.  They look so cute.  They give them a lion cut.  I've been so busy I haven't kept up with their coats like I should.  Well, let me say their abdominal areas.  They aren't so cooperative on holding still, now they have matted hair there. Anyway, I'm off to the gym.  I hoped to go to water aerobics this morning, but, realized I didn't have time and still get the cats to their appts on time, so I'll have to go on Friday morning.  I am planning to do 45 minutes on the treadmill, abs, abs, abs and some lower body strength training. What did you do to move your body today? Lori

We get our dogs shaved, too.  It's not a big deal with the shih-tzu, but people get confused when they see our shaved long-haired doxie.  He gets shaved everywhere except his tail, which is quite feathery and waves when he walks.  He rides so low to the ground that it's just easier to have him shaved than try to comb the snarls out of his belly hair.   As a matter of fact, all four of us were "groomed" last Saturday, so we're all sporting nice haircuts at our house!  My sibling and I plan to go to the rec center when she comes home from work.  I could only manage five minutes on the treadmill yesterday, but it was at a slightly faster pace than I've done, so I broke a sweat during those five minutes.  I was pretty sore and tired, so I quit the treadmill and switched over to the arm bike for 25 minutes, with a setting of "random" so it omulated both flat surface and hills.  Felt good! I don't know why the treadmill is so hard for me.  I might need a different type of shoe to help cushion my feet.  My feet and knees get very sore, and I don't have this problem when I walk, so I think I'm getting more impact on the treadmill.  I can't use the synvisc shots because I'm allergic to egg yolk.  (Also, my HMO will provide them, but at cost, it's considered "experimental"). My sibling told me that the woman on the treadmill next to her (easily in her 70s) had been running on the treadmill for two hours!  The woman was working with a trainer, who was next to the treadmill cheering her on.  I certainly felt inferior after hearing that!  Kix

Kix, You may very well need different shoes.  They sure affect my knees and hips!  I still am having problems with chronic blisters on my left foot.  I now wear a blister pad held on with duct tape!  I think my foot is a bit deformed or something as I've tried all kinds of brands of shoes. Doing 5 minutes is fine.  If you stay with that amount at least 1 week before you add more, you will be appropriately working up. Lori

Good Morning Lori! I went back to the pool today, so 1 hr of water aerobics for me.  The pool was really crowded - 29 people there. I'm off to work on a project with some friends.  My good friend Betty has a grandson in Iraq and is making 500 pillowcases for his unit.  We have been working on sewing these assembly line style for the past month, and today is a workday.  I've been trying to gather 500 handwritten notes to go with the pillowcases. Maybe at some point I will venture back into the gym part of the Y, but I won't hold my breath! Call me a water baby, cause I love the pool!

Jennie, You may go back to the gym, but, do it when you are ready.  One reason I go at such an insane early time of day is because I prefer the gym less crowded.  Of course, if I didn't work, like this week, it sure isn't crowded at 9 and 10 am. Kudos for you for doing the pillowcases!!!! Lori

Lori, You're right, if I had to work around a work schedule, I'd go early in the morning as well. My dh has not been working out at the gym provided at work lately so that he can attend the evening water class with me.  We've been enjoying that, and he said that it is WAY more work than he thought it would be.   We went to the class tonight, so that is another hour for me today.  I'm really tired tonight from being in the pool. We only have 20 more pillow cases to make to reach 500 for this unit.  We hope to continue until all fo the donated fabric is used up and send those to other troops or a VA rehab facility.  I still need more letters though! I've tried the treadmill and bikes at the gym, but to me those are uncomfortable.  I do have a membership to Ladies Workout Express, but I haven't been in 2+ months.  I should try that again.  It is like Curves, but the machines are adjustable.
