QUESTION ABOUT ANEMIA??
HI EVERYBODY!! I HAVE A QUESTION. I HAD MY LAB WORK DRAWN TODAY AND MY RESULTS SAY THAT MY IRON IS OK BUT MY TOTAL IRON BINDING CAPACITY IS LOW WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? I HAVE BEEN TAKING 5 IRON PILLS A DAY (NOT AT THE SAME TIME) W/ VITAMIN C AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE IRON INFUSIONS 1 TIME. I STARTED TO GET FATIGUED SO I ASKED MY WLS DR TO WRITE ME AN ORDER TO HAVE MY LABS DRAWN FOR MY IRON AND MY IRON WAS GOOD BUT THE OTHER WAS LOW. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME OUT AS TO WHAT THIS MEANS. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

I believe that if your iron is fine and your binding capacity is low then you are running out of "room" to bind more iron. I'll bet that your ferritin is also high and that your hemoglobin and hematocrit is fine.
If you were anemic, your TIBC would be high since here is "room" to bind to lots of iron, but since you are taking so many iron tabs, now there isn't that much "room" left to bind to iron. Does that make sense?
