Am I Doing Something Wrong?

Hello Everyone, I am 7 weeks post op and I am just confused about my slow weight loss. I started out at 377.7 and I expected to have lost a lot more by now. I am now 344.6 (43.1 loss). Everyone keeps telling me that every one is different; but from the majority of the people I see who's starting weight was similar to mine, they have lost so much more weight. I'm just wondering if I am doing something wrong? Granted I'm having problems getting in all of my protein, but I'm managing about 60g/day, working my way up to the 70-100 g recommended. I started with my personal trainer last week, so I am getting my weight training and cardio in. Am I eating the wrong types of foods? Or is this supposed to happen? I'm trying not to get frustrated, but I am... Someone please help.

Good Morning, I am also 7 weeks out - we had surgery the same day.  I  went into surgery at 343.4 (344), and today I'm at 301.2 -- so we've lost just about the same amount of weight.  My weight last summer was 375, and I was able to lose 31lbs before surgery.  I was told by the instructor for the classes that my insurance required before approval that if you had lost some weight before surgery, your loss might be slower becuase you've already lost alot of the water weight and such.  I know that I'm a bit slower than some here on OH, but when I look at those who all had surgery around the time that I did from my Kaiser class, we are all very close in loss, with the exception of those who were much smaller -- they have lost between 25-35lbs and had their surgery earlier in January. I know that I have NO clothes that fit from my old wardrobe, and I've dropped from a 34W to a 22W pant, and a 26/28 shirt to a 14/16 or an 18/20.  My measurements show a giant drop -- 10 inches from my waist, 6 inches from my bust, 4 inches from hips.  Look at those things as well, and also see if you need to increase your exercise.  But also realize that this isn't going to drop off as quickly as we had originally thought, and it will take some effort. I hope you can be encouraged that you are doing the right things and to keep it up.  Trying looking at photos of yourself before and now to see how you've changed, an you will see a difference.  Also, realize that the heavier we are, it takes longer for people to comment that they see a difference, which can be discouraging. On your foods, if you are eating good quality protein with a big of veggies (if you've been released to those yet), you will be fine and some of us are slower than others.  I don't think you are doing anything wrong.  Also, I already had a very high muscle mass, and heavy bones.  This was confirmed to me through the % body fat analysis.  You also might have more muscle, and build muscle quickly like me, which gives you a leaner body, but weighs more.  That's why the measurements are so important! Hugs,
Jennie

greetings!

i'm one of those people who didn't keep track of how much i had lost at what stage along the way...kind of wish i had now, though, but...it's too late. so i can't compare your loss to mine...but i can tell you the kinds of stuff i was eating early out. little cans of chicken, sometimes tuna, and lots of cheese! those were basically my staples for the first 6-7 months. i did (and still do) drink protein drinks by advantedge (http://register.eas.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=68 14§ion=10779) -- i only like the cafe carmel flavor, though! i was totally not adventurous about food for the first year...i had this theory that trying more foods would get my taste buds re-awakened and i'd start craving more foods...so i just didn't try more foods. i travel a lot for my job, so i'd take my little cans of chicken and my protein drinks with me! i had some trouble getting in all tha****er, too. i really don't like plain water much... i always drank walmart's flavored water, but it's carbonated. it took me awhile, but i've finally settled on propel...and i like it quite alot now. try not to get frustrated. just keep following your doctor's plan, and be patient. i wish you all the best! deb -276

43 pounds in less than two months is wonderful!!  Could you have ever done that before surgery? Don't get frustrated and don't become a slave to the scale!  You're doing a great job!!

I had lost 40 pounds at 7 weeks out and I thought I was doing great. These days, not so much. How much did you expect to lose and how fast? This isn't an overnight deal as I'm sure you're well aware. 43 pounds in 7 weeks is really great, and I'd say well above average!

Thanks everyone for the replies... I think I was just really being anal and tripping yesterday. I know this is my journey and is not going to be similar to anyone else’s, so the first thing I need to do is stop comparing. Secondly, I just need to continue doing the right things, getting my protein in, drinking my water, eating the right foods, and exercising and it will all come off. Thanks for the encouragement! ~Smoochez

Yeah, I think we all have days like that. You've got the right idea now, just keep doing what you need to do and it will work for you. Sometimes it gets frustrating, no doubt, but just keep plugging away and it'll be worth it! Good job and keep up the great work.

Sounds like you are doing awesome!!! Could you imagine doing that before surgery AND knowing you will be keeping it off? Hang in there it will go fast and slow and fast and slow but it will go!!
