Take me out to the ballgame!!!!!!
Well another wonderful Wow is about to happen.
My husband and I have been Oakland A;s fans forever. 10 years ago we had season tickets and loved going to the ballpark. Well as my weigh increased I was unable to go with him anymore, because of not being able to manage all the stairs, then later not being able to fit into the seats. It has always broke my heart when he would go off to the games, and over the years he stopped going himself. Well this year..We are going to opening weekend. I am so excited..It is so wonderful to be able to plan these kind of things. I knew you all would understand the joy I am feeling.
It is so awesome to be able to normal things again. I must admit thou I wish the world would accomidate larger people. Its a shame that we weren't able to enjoy the normal things everyone else takes for granted.
Thanks for all your support..
Lynn
It doesn't help that the seats at the Oakland Coliseum are designed by the same folks who do the airline seats.
And those stairs, you practically need to be a mountain goat to manage them.
I'm an A's fan, too, so I totally understand how excited you are to attend opening weekend! Are you taking BART, or driving in?
I have to be careful declaring allegiance to Oakland teams now that I live in the Denver area -- some of the folks get a bit testy around here when I say I'm from Oakland (it's that pesky Raiders/Broncos rivalry).
I understand we have a nice baseball stadium here in Denver. Now that I can actually get out and about, I should attend a Rockies game. I think we're in the NL, though, so no A's here, darn it.
Have a great time! And, of course -- GO A'S!

Yes, I spent many years in Oakland, my main office was at 10th and Broadway at the old Clorox building. I spent a lot of time on the road, though -- I managed a ten-county health district (Alameda/Berkeley, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Solano) counties. I hate freeways, too, so after all those years on the road, I can tell you the back roads to any destination within the Greater Bay Area!
A few months ago, I was taking the accessible van home from the doctor and met a fellow in a wheelchair who turned out to be a retired Oakland cop. He was paralyzed in the line of duty. It also turned out he lived two blocks from me in Alameda. Talk about a small world. He was raised here in Denver and decided to move back here a couple of years ago.
We had a wonderful chat about Oakland and I thanked him for keeping me safe all those years I worked downtown.

PS: 30 minutes from Vallejo to Oakland?
I don't think I've seen 80 with less than rush-hour type traffic since 1978! The section around El Sobrante and Hercules is particularly bad. It was a lot easier when Hercules was mostly rural.

You are right about the Hercules Pinole area being really bad with traffic. We take the Benicia, Martinez bridge, and go thru the Caldacott tunnel..alot faster.. of course I was probably underestimating the travel time....I have a cousin that lives in Alameda, they love it...
Have a great weekend

I wondered if you might take 780 to 680 and go through the tunnel. That shouldn't be too bad unless they decide to close one of the Caldecott bores for some silly reason. Hit it just right, and you will get from Vallejo to the Oakland Coliseum in 30 minutes! I'll think good thoughts for an effortless commute for you and your husband on game day, and an A's victory. GO A'S! Kix
Sounds like a lot of fun!! I worked at Dodger Stadium for 11 years was at ever single game and loved it! My Mom has been a Dodger fan since she was a kid and had season tickets when they used to play at the Coliseum. We all bleed blue ...
The only A's games I remember are when they played the Dodgers in the World Series ... that back in the days I was working there, and what exciting times! Reggie Jackson hitting all those homeruns, wow, do I feel old!
Hope you have a great time!
Jan,
Wow that must have been awesome being at all those games.
I remember the Reggie Jackson days, I was a kid and my parents took me to alot of games back then, Reggie, Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter... they won quite a few championships in the 70's.
I can't wait to go back to the ole ball park.. Thanks for the memories..
Lynn
