Of course you will be fine!  I can't tell you what to expect, as I'm not to that point yet, but I think crazy thoughts are normal.  As for eating more before surgery, its how you've learned to cope with stress.  At least that's my story.  I'm sure its a normal response 1 week out, but be careful that its ok with your doctor because you don't want to do anything to jeopardize yourself during surgery.  A lot of docs put you on a liquid diet, low/no carb, a few days out to shrink your liver.  Does your surgeon have a policy on that?  It depends on the doc, some seem to really frown on the "last meal" mentality, while others don't care.  I plan on going all liquid one week out because I want to adapt to what will happen after surgery, as well as to shrink the liver so the laparoscopic surgery is easier.  The day before I start it though, I am probably having one of my favorite meals.   Best Wishes on your surgery and recovery!  You'll do fantastically.  Jenn

Hey Jenn  you know I asked my doctor if he wanted me to start a liquid diet.  He  said no I should be fine. I tried doing it on my on. I bought a blender, and the protein mix. I tried to mix it with a fruit and yogurt to try to get the hang of it. What do you think happened........Yuck!!! I couldnt stand it. I have been told that the surgery will change the way I taste certain things. I hope that is true. Even though I dont have to I will try to go on liquids this weekend to help with the gas afterwards. Oh I have heard the stories.                                 Thankyou for support                                        Big Sassy

Hi  Sweetie, first congratulations on your date!  Follow your docs instructions and you WILL do an amazing job and have better health than ever!   As far as what to expect the first month, I do not know what your docs protocols are so I don't know if you will be in liquids for a time or if you will go straight to foods.  My doc had me on liquids for 3 weeks after surgery then purreed foods for another 2 weeks before solids. Anyway, I can expect to mourn food.  I won't sugar coat it.  the first few weeks for me were miserable.  I was not "hungry" but I wanted something to eat.  I would get depressed seeing commercials with food and watching my family eat.  I lost what I considered to be my best-friend - food.  For a while, I actually regretted having the surgery.  I think most of us have that buyers remorse.  My energy levels were also very low.  The first month was truly the hardest. But, honey, once I got over that initial hump and my energy started to return, I have not looked back since.  I got over my food mourning and now I don't miss sugar, soda, and bread at all.  I have more energy now than I ever had in my entire life.  And you will too!  Just keep telling yourself that it IS worth it! Hugs, Tracy

Tracy you know what food is my friend. I think I am having second thoughts because I know I can not continue these bad habits. When I think of food I think of comfort, I eat when I am happy, sad, excited ,bored you name it.  So this is a huge challenge for me. I know I am not the only one this is happenening to. I know this is worth it. That is what is getting me through. Tracy thank you for the insight. Everyone has been so helpful.                                                          Big Sassy

Hi Big_Sassy,

You have been given some great words of wisdom here so I want say to CONGRATS to you on your up and coming date.

I felt the same as you about whether this would work for me or not. But like Felicia (I hope it was her *L*) said you have a tool to help you through this time. All will work out great if you follow your surgeon's program guidelines.

I too had buyers remorse early on (infact I'd say I was in regrets til my 6th mo) but it does eventually get better for you. I believe my issues were about giving up control...THIS IS NOT A BEAUTY TRIP ATTALL! It's a tough journey but if you are like me, you'll come to be happy that you did it. Best of luck to you!

Triple C  I have been blessed with all the words of wisdom I have been given.  I go see my surgeon tommorow which is friday. I hav many questions to ask him. As of rightnow he hasnt really given me a guideline. But I shall find out.  If I have the "buyers remorse" syndrome its probably only going to be because the food I cant digest anymore. Phsically I think I will love it. I apprieciete your words.                                         Big Sassy

Hey there Sassy, Good for you on the questions for the surgeon. Perhaps at your up coming appointment he will detail a set of guidelines for you then.

Looks to me like you are being very honest with yourself at the onset and that helps a lot. Like I said, it's a tough journey but it does get easier. With determination and dedication, you should be fine...

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and sending lots of positve vibes your way..

Best of luck to you!
