When I read non-ops who post here say stuff like "I didn't have WLS, I lost weight through diet and exercise..."  As if we have an operation and poof, the weight is gone.  Good grief, they act as if we still gorge ourselves on pizza, cookies and chips, sit around all day and still lose the weight simply because we had WLS.  You'd think some non-ops would be more educated about WLS since they post here, but I guess not all of them are - some are but not all.  It's bad enought to have to see that crap emblazened across the cover of People magazine all the time, but here too???  Grrrrr.... Okay, that's my rant for the day...

Jesus is so good to me;  I couldn't ask for a better friend, protector, leader, savior!

Word to that! I love how, on TV shows like "Brookhaven Obesity Clinic," WLS is portrayed as the Great Satan and how a person is somehow unworthy if he or she resorts to the "quick fix" of WLS.  After all, "diet and exercise is the only sensible way to lose weight."  As for the diet and exercise, well, it seems like I'm doing just that as a post-op, unless all that armbike activity every day is merely a figment of my imagination!  You know what?  Screw 'em!  Sorry for the bad language, but I don't care.  WLS worked for me, and saved my life.  I don't owe anyone any explanations or need to apologize for it.  If a non-op wants to think they are better than me somehow because they did not have WLS, go ahead.  No skin off my nose!  However, that doesn't mean I won't mentally kick them in the shins.  Kix

Kix, I watched a few of the Brookhaven's on Sunday and was furious.  Unless they follow up at a later date I didn't see anyone get better.  It seemed like they focused on 3 things, how caring the director is (I want to know his story), how WLS is frowned upon, yet they gave no reason as to why and last how these people cheat.  If I was in a D & A rehab I don't think I could call up the neighborhood dealer and get my fix.  How the hell did these people cheat.  Someone is providing the food.  Deliveries shouldn't be allowed.  Oh you opened the door on my wild rant about this program.  As I said I didn'****ch the entire 7 or 8 episodes but what I saw was not supportive of the obese (hate that word) community. BTW, I am going to celebrate my one year anniversary next week.  I am so happy that  I made the decision to have the surgery. Jeanne

Thank you for opening the rant door.  This is my second post on the here.  I belong to a size friendly group for years.  Someone posted about the show Big Medicine and was very sarcastic about how no one in the group should watch it.  This group is very much against WLS.  As a member I posted that I was a sucessful (on my way still working on it) post op and how I was going to watch the show to see the people and their stories.  I GOT BANNED FROM THE POST.  According to the rules of the group no pro-WLS can be discussed.  I was shocked.  These are not people who are 5 lbs overweight they are all in the 350 lb. plus and many are 500 +.  I understand that all people should be accepted and the group has answered some questions that I have had over the years but to ban me because of my opinion.  OH Well, I am not the group owner so I have no say.  I just am lurking for awhile.  BTW, I did slip in a post about my lose of 160 lbs. and I got 40 e-mails personally asking for me to call them so that they could ask questions about WLS.  The people who e-mailed me were too afraid they would be booted out of the group to ask publicly. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME RANT!!!!!!!!! Jeanne in Philadelphia

But what are they supposed to say?t They didn't have surgery and they lost they weight through diet and exercise.  They are simply sta?ing the facts.  They are not diminishing WLS in any way.  Smiles, Loris

OMG the war on WLS will never end   Can of worms are opened There are "SOME FOLKS"  ( In the world as a whole)  who think it is a lazy way out of being obese. Most of these people I don't think have ever been obese and when I say obese I mean Super Morbidly Obese.  When you have 250lbs to lose you need something other than a diet and excercise  and pleeeez, I can barely walk at times. This is what I will tell anyone who thinks I am taking the easy way out. " I think if you are 100 or less then fine go ahead and take some phentenermine and diet your azz off and do cardio or walk till you drop because you can. But when you are barely able to walk a mile and need to drop the kinda weight I need to then you can Judge my choice to have WLS!!!" It is no ones business what I will do to get this CURSE of a body off me. If they don't support me there against me. The people in my life that matter and love me and know me and understand me SUPPORT WLS for me. They know I have tried other options.  I have taken pills for years on end under doctors care. I have had to take sleeping pills to go to sleep because of the diet pills the doc gave me.  I used to be able to walk 3 miles a day and then 5 years ago I fell and hurt my leg and back and now I do good to make it through walmart. I have packed on 150lbs in 5 years because I cant walk or work anymore. I have a apron belly due to my weight that causes pressure on my legs causing them to go numb and  makes me fall all the time. I have had 4 different doctors tell me that WLS is right for me. Until these morons walk a year in my shoes then they just need to keep there stupid comments to themselves. I THINK IT IS WODERFUL if there are PEOPLE HERE OR IN THE WORLD who have been able to drop 100-250lbs all natural.  You are one of the few. I think WLS is NOT FOR EVERYONE. I think WLS is by no means the easy way out and if anyone thinks it is easy they need to go to the main board and lurk for a few weeks.  OMG I have to get off this topic, Makes me mad when topics like this come up. Sorry for ranting on and on

They think if you are fat you are lazy, if you have WLS you are lazy.  Its a no-win.  My mom lost and kept off over 100lbs through diet and exercise, and I am so proud of her. (and envious a little bit) but I need help.  I've tried before, it just doesn't work for me.  I'm glad she's been so supportive, because I was worried she'd say "if I can do it, so can you" but instead she said "yeah, that would make it a lot easier on you, especially if you want to have kids..and you'll be a lot happier"  So far I'm lucky, the most negative comment I've gotten is "WLS, that's really drastic isn't it?"  But you see that attitude everywhere..  my pet peeve is people who've lost a lot of weight (WLS or not) and now think they are better than everyone else.  I've gotten more of that on here than I expected.
