My sibling is home from her cruise -- her plane landed at DIA on time; however, they sat on the tarmac for 45 minutes waiting for a gate.  Meanwhile, I was parked at the "holding area" (a spot where you can park for free and wait for your arrivee to call you on your cell phone and tell you which door to pick them up) wondering if her plane had been hijacked, or she'd gotten a better offer! Anyway, we skipped the rec center today and drove to Colorado Springs to see the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  The zoo is located up on the side of a mountain (!) and their tram that carts visitors to the different sections of the zoo was not working today.  My sibling and I ended up hoofing it up and down the zoo.  I managed pretty well with several rest breaks for my knees, and while I was doing all that uphill walking, I wondered how people manage to walk uphill and enjoy it.  I still don't feel confident on downhill walks, but I made it without tumbling down the mountain.  What surprised me is that I wasn't huffing and puffing all out of breath. After the zoo, we drove up to the Will Rogers Shrine.  I'm at a loss to describe it except to call it kind of a cross between San Simeon and Coit Tower.  We had to walk uphill from the parking lot, and I was able to do that with only one brief rest break for my knees.  The views were spectacular, although we did not climb up the stairs to the top of the shrine (we were both too worn out by then), but the inside of the shrine has interesting murals painted on it that depict Colorado history (I thought it might be WPA-funded art from the 30s, but there weren't any guides there to answer questions). With all the walking I did today, I'm sorry I forgot to wear my pedometer.  I did get quite a workout, I can tell you! Kix

I forgot to mention that some crazy woman pushing her grandkids in one of those rental strollers from the zoo ran over my toes!  I was resting on a bench and next thing I know, my toes are being crushed!  I yelled OW quite loudly, and the gramma looked back, then hurried away.  Now I know how a hit-and-run victim feels.  Good thing she didn't do serious damage, I pretty much need (and prefer) all five toes on each foot. Stupid bint! Kix
