I didn't go for gym time since I just had surgery last week.  I did just get back from a 30 minute walk.  I've been doing three walks a day.

Thanks for opening the gym Karen! It is appreciated! I've been out of town for the past 4 days so I felt a little rusty today. But, it feels good to get moving again!  I did 17 minutes on the elliptical, 20 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on upper and lower body weight work. Tonight I might just go for a run - I started running last week and was shocked that I could do it! Walking doesn't get my heart rate up high enough so on a whim I decided to run and it worked. I want to try the mile loop at my my house and see if I can make it for a mile. Who knows, maybe this will get me motivated to do a 5k run sometime!

Thanks for opening the gym, Karen, and congrats on getting in your gym time today.  I'll hit the gym twice today - already lifted weights for upper and lower body at lunch.  After work I'll go back for round 2, which will be 30-40 minutes of cardio.   I'm going to try a new approach to cardio based on an article I just read in Oprah.  The article suggests that doing shorter interval-based workouts can be more beneficial than longer, sustained workouts.  Has to do with how the body responds to the up-and-down of your heart rate that happens when you do intervals.  Anyway, I'm going to switch up my cardio and do 30-35 minute interval sessions on the days when I lift weights.  I'll continue to do the 50-60 minute sustained cardio sessions on the other days, so I can maintain my base cardio fitness.  I'm going to try this for 6-8 weeks and see how I feel.  I had tried doing intervals before, but was trying to do them for the full length of my regular cardio workout; that was just too much for me and I wound up with some stress-related injuries.   Anyway, thanks again for opening the gym! I did 1 hour of water aerobics, and lots and lots of walking around today!
