If you wear a size 11/12 women's shoe (size 9.5/10 mens), have a pair of sneakers and have a scale, would you weigh the sneakers and send me note telling me how much they weigh? I totally blew my diet for 3 days (Fri-Sun) when the "Colonel" came to visit. I got back on track Monday morning, and weighed myself this afternoon with sneakers instead of my sandals. My PCP found me at the scale in tears, and tried to tell me that the sneakers probably account for the weight gain, or I may be bloated. Logically I know this could be true, but I need to obsess some more to keep from giving up. So humor me if you can. Say something miraculous if you know something like that. Anything would be appreciated because even though the binge made me feel physically sick, emotionally it calmed me down really well. -Julie
Practice safe eating - always use condiments.

My 8W sneakers usually add right about 1lb to the scale.  I put my husband's 12s on my scale and they were 1.5lbs - if that info helps.  Pre-op binge, I did it too.  It doesn't put you completely off track, its ok.  Just remember that you are trying to make your very serious surgery easier on you and on your surgeon.  That's what I kept telling myself at my weakest, and sometimes it worked.  *hugs*  Also, the colonel is salty, so you really might be a little bloated.

Julie, if you're eating salt, then it's a pretty safe bet that you're probably carrying a bit extra water weight.  I don't like salt and don't eat salty foods very often, so when I do, I feel it for about two days.  I like Chinese steamed dumplings, and when I allow myself to have them, I bloat up like a parade float for several days. My sister is like you in that she loves salt.  She puts salt on watermelon.  I have a pork chop recipe that calls for the thin chop to be salted with kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper, and then quickly fried in a hot skillet with a bit of olive oil.  She puts salt on this even though the kosher salt should be more than enough salt.  I'm always finding salt offals on the counter becaue she shakes the salt shaker so vigorously when salting everything she eats.  I've even seen her put salt on potato chips. You actually wear shoes when you weigh at your PCP's office?  I strip off as many extraneous items as possible before I get on the scale (shoes, portable oxygen pack, any layered clothing).  I'd take off my glasses as well, but then I wouldn't be able to see to get on the scale.  At my monthly support class, I told our counselor he should get a screen to put around the scale so we can strip off when we weigh if that's what we're used to at home.  He was at a loss for words.  Can't imagine why!  Kix

Ok I hate to say it but I have big feet. I wear about a 12 my womens shoes weigh less than my mens. On average the womens is around 2 pounds and men closer to 3. I hope this helps.  Lorraine
