My nurses were amazing, that is definitely one thing I can give credit to that hospital for.  I've never been so well taken care of at any other hospital.  Because they only have four rooms, you are completely spoiled by nurses who aren't harried and overworked, and really care about you.  One night, when I was the ONLY patient, every time I'd ring the bell two nurses and an RT would show up.  It was insane.  They were hoping I'd wake up so they'd have something to do!  They are so nice and easy to talk to.   I am someone who has a really hard time giving up control.  Having to let people help me do things like wipe after the toilet or take a shower is really hard for me to do, but I felt more comfortable with them than usual.  And they really did start putting up a fight on my behalf as I started getting the bad dehydration headaches and feeling so frustrated because nothing was ever going to start moving if I was still on morphine and still not drinking.  Once I was able to have liquid lortab and water my system was much more willing to cooperate.   On another note, my best friend's husband is a nurse, and next time I see him I plan to make a point of thanking him for the work that he does.

Hi Jenn, I'm so glad you are home!  What a horrible experience!  I'm a big baby if I have to go without something to drink more than an hour!  But for as long as you did - that's ridiculous!  And being dehydrated give you the worst headache doesn't it?  Your MD is a nutcase to say the least.  UGH - I'll be praying for your physical health and also your emotional health. Take Care~~ Lori

Well, I am not going to disagree on the nutcase point (because I have a lot of reasons not to like the guy), even though he isn't one really.  I'm sure he had his reasons and I doubt he had the full picture on how badly dehydrated I was - its possible that he didn't realize I was only getting a tablespoon of fluids per hour through the IV.  I know he didn't want to upset my system, and throwing up would have been a very bad idea with the new hernia repairs, etc, but I definitely wish he wasn't so stubborn.  It wasn't like I wanted a five course meal, I just wanted a swallow or two of water and if it didn't settle, no more.  Thanks for the good wishes and prayers Lori.   Jenn

Stupid doctor, how are you supposed to pass gas or poop when you are on morphine?      I've had blood drawn from my feet.  It isn't pleasant.  It's perfectly normal to feel scared after such a traumatic event.  It sounds like you're taking it easy, which is good.  Give yourself some time to heal (emotionally and physically) and once you are able to get your protein in, you'll start feeling better.  It's hard enough to get beat up in the hospital when your protein isn't low, but when you're depleted, it makes it 100 times harder. Feel free to cry here any time.  If I was closer to San Antonio, I'd visit you and pat you fondly until you felt better.   Kix

Thanks Kix   Blood from feet isn't pleasant but I was glad when they finally hit something!  They didn't get enough in one draw though so went for another foot vein.  I was waiting for an IV in my foot or ankle actually.  The worst part with the needles was the IVs because they didn't use local (made veins disappear) and they kept probing and probing.  My elbow is really sore from getting my arm twisted every which way.   I got a little milk in this morning with CIB, so that's a little protein.  I get to move on to purees next week so I am looking forward to a little more variety.  I feel a little better today, its been movie day.  I watched Walk the Line on HBO and now I am watching The Constant Gardener.  I had a long deep sleep last night and that helped some.  Also, getting caught up with the water.   Thanks for the cheer! Jenn
