Gym is Open (Monday 9/24)
Sorry to post so late this morning, I just got home.
I didn't feel like doing in-line machine or weights today, so I opted for a 1-hr class called, "Deep Water Aerobics" at my rec center (the cold pool with the hunks of ice floating in it).
The class was fun, but it really kicked my butt! We wore floatation belts (I picked a size L and it was too big, it kept creeping up under my armpits -- next time I'll take the M) and used noodles and barbells. I chose the firm noodle and the more dense barbell, after all, I press 50-70 lbs on the weight machines. Those aqua barbells just about killed me.
I feel like I spent the hour bobbing up and down like a buoy, treading water, and trying not to kill myself with the aqua barbells! Marching back and forth across the big pool is much harder than my wimpy warm water pool.
The teacher, who I've met before because she teaches some of the aqua arthritis classes at the warm pool, really kept us moving. In fact, I almost felt a bit ill after the class. I think working out in the cold pool is really too hard on my system, which sucks, because the class was fun.

I can totally relate to your chilly water aerobics experience! My roommate and I did a water aerobics class at the local outdoor pool last year. It was freezing every session! By the time we were done, my lips were often bluish. We did not sign up for said class again this year...
As for today's exercise, I lifted weights for upper and lower body at lunch. I am planning to go back and do 40-50 minutes of cardio after work, but a good friend had a death in the family earlier today. So if she needs me, I'll go be with her instead. I'll just have to wait and see...

Kellie, my toenails were blue when I got out of the pool, and even a hot shower and standing in front of the hand drier with the vents pointed at me didn't really warm me up. I had my sister's lovely new Highlander hybrid today, so I turned on the seat warmer and the heater and finally brought my body temperature back up to something more comfortable than BRRRR! I don't know how those itty bitty seniors stand that cold pool water!
I complained to the rec center about the cold pool. Their excuse is that the pool is used by the high schools for swim meets. I was on the swim team in high school, and I'm pretty sure we didn't keep the water at arctic levels.
I felt kind of wonky all day. I think it was too much, exercising so vigorously for an hour in that cold water, plus I hadn't had time for breakfast and forgot my water bottle. I was shopping at Target and started getting what I call a "floppy heart." I came right home and spent the afternoon resting on my recliner, as well as drinking three large bottles of water (one with a potassium powder supplement mixed in). I feel like my old self now, so I figure I must have been hungry/dehydrated/hypothermic?

When I get cold now, I have a heck of a time getting warm! Some days I miss my insulation, but I figure I can always pile on another layer of clothes and turn up the heat! I wish I had heated seats in my car so I could toast my buns when they get cold
I'm glad you are feeling better - I'm not sure exactly what "wonky" feels like, but it doesn't sound good! You probably nailed it with your hungry/dehydrated/hypothermic analysis. And your prescription - drinking water and taking it easy - sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

I was cold today wearing all my clothes, plus a coat, and not wet at all - I don't think I could do one of those classes! (I can just hear Marge talking about our lack of insulation - I tell ya, I think this winter will be a *****illy for us!)
I'm having to get creative in my workouts due to my ribs - today I did 20 minutes on the treadmill and 13 minutes on the bike. I tried the elliptical and soon realized that my ribs didn't like it. So, I guess I'll be using these for a while. And no weights, at least for a couple of weeks.
Actually, I'm beginning to think I need to take some time off every few months, because I am feeling really good when I workout! I have been pushing it so much lately that I think my body was just tired and needed a break. I was talking to a friend of mine who does long distance bike races and he mentioned the same thing and that he plans on taking 5 days off every 45 days - when he gets back on the bike he has twice as much energy. It's something to ponder.
