Gym is Open (Wednesday 9/26)
Happy hump day, all!
My sister called from Arizona. The burial went well, and the rabbi did a pretty decent job considering he did not know my brother-in-law at all. She plans to stay for a few days to help our sister get the house together, get some meals made up and in the freezer, and just general maintenance tasks while our sister takes care of important paperwork, etc.
The shih-tzu seems more like his old self today. He ate a hearty breakfast and is now napping on my bed next to the doxie, who is sitting at attention looking out the window in case any nefarious folks walk past the house.
I'll be spending all day at the computer working on a project, so no gym for me. I'm sure I will get restless around mid-day, so I'll throw the dogs in the car and we'll go to the park for a brisk walk.
I'm going to a play tonight (my sister has subscriptions to all the theater companies here, and she had one for tonight she couldn't use).
What fun things are you doing today to move your body?

Kix Hi, Kix. Glad the burial went well and that the shih-tzu seems perkier. My roommates always panic that something bad will happen to my cat when I'm out of town, so I understand your position as the keeper of the pooches. What play are you going to see? Hopefully something funny -
I can't say it was "fun," but I lifted weights for upper and lower body at lunch today. I do a circuit of 15 different machines, which gives me a pretty good strength training session. Some day I'm going to have one of the fitness trainers show me proper form for doing some of the same exercise with free weights. I'm planning to head back to the gym after work for 40-50 minutes of cardio.
Good luck to everyone in finding time, energy, and motivation to move it today!

Your poor sister - I tell ya, I was shocked at how much needs to be done after someone dies. The funeral home gave us this MASSIVE book with more checklists than you can shake a stick at. We looked at it the first day, then put it away because it was so overwhelming. Mom and I plan on trudging through it this weekend and I am not looking forward to it.
On to what I did to 'move my body' today
. I had an early morning at school so didn't get to workout, but planned on walking around downtown after my class - I figure I did about 4-5 miles at a pretty good pace. Then I also took the train so that adds 1-2 miles right there. I figure that will work for me today. It did give my ribs a good break and they aren't bothering me at all today!
I am itching to get outside and hike though - this fall weather is calling my name. I miss my days of exploring! I am seriously considering becoming a mountain bum next summer. School will be out, I can get a waitress job at some bar in the mountains, live in a tent and take off whenever I want to hike. I can't tell you how appealing that sounds.
Of course I know this could be just my reaction to everything that has happened lately, so I won't make any immediate plans to take off. But I've always wanted to be one of those people who don't have a care in the world, don't worry about money or anything like that, but just fulfill their dream, no matter what.

I just got back from a half hour walk. Its still pretty hot here, nothing autumn about it, but I managed not to melt and it felt pretty good. I have no idea how far I went because i just walked around campus instead of going to the park where I usually walk - it has a measured path. I started thinking about how badly I want some avocado, that's my main craving these days, so I think I'm going to leave work and head to the store for some produce before I go home. I doubt I'll do any more exercise today, but I've walked a bunch to and from the parking lot and around the campus, so I feel pretty accomplished for the day.
Happy Humpday!
Hi Kix,
I'm pretty tired out tonight, but wanted to post my activity for the day. I went to water aerobics this morning (I would love to come teach a class for you!), and did my 1 hour. I then got a phone call from my daughter, who was leaving for college classes. Someone had tried to steal her stereo, smashed her window and torn apart her dashboard. I spent the rest of the afternoon dealing with those issues - we have a new window, the stereo is being repaired, and I had to go to Honda for a new trim piece for the dashboard. I got home in just enough time to change into a bathing suit and head to swim lessons. At least it was a warm 90 degree day, so I wasn't cold. After getting out of the pool, I had to pick dd up from her class since I had her car, then off to mid week service at church. I'm ready to fall into bed.
Our YMCA is part of a challenge with America on the Move to see how much activity we can get in for the week of 9/22 - 9/29. Americaonthemove.com has a way to convert your exercise into steps, and I was pleased to see that since I started on Sunday the 23rd, I've gone over 75,000 steps -- that is over 18,750 steps per day!
Hopefully, you will soon have your project finished, and be able to head back to the gym. Glad to hear that your dog is doing better. I am sorry to hear of your sister's loss.
