Anyone Have Sleep Apnea?

Hi Everyone, I had a colonoscopy today and that part was fine. However during the procedure which they put you to sleep for, they had to hold my airway open for me to breathe. Glad it wasn't a long procedure. They said I needed to get a sleep study ASAP and get treated for sleep apnea. If any of you know anything about this, please let me know what you had to do for the test and what treatment you are getting. They also said I would feel SO much better and be able to lose weight easier and faster. That part I definitely don't get. They said something about a mask while you sleep. I am a back, side and stomach sleeper. I change positions every hour or so through the night. Not sure how I would even keep the mask on! Thanks for any help! Lori

I to have sleep apnea and was worried about trying to sleep with it on. The first week it was a little strange. But now i sleep anyway i want i toss and turn alot and have no problems at all. Also i do feel better no headaches and im not draggin and yawning all the time. I also worried what my family will think but they dont care as long as i feel better. I wish i would have got the cpap along time ago... Good luck

Hey Lori, Sleep Apnea runs in my family.  The mask isn't sexy (I fear I will never have sex again for that very reason! haha), but it works.  I feel so much better in the morning and I do change positions quite a bit.  My daughter told me that I move the hose while I sleep.  Interesting.  Guess you do what you have to do! As for the losing weight part, that is mostly true.  Your heart pumps more efficiently, you have more energy (hence, you might go to the gym more), and your body doesn't have to worry about holding on to everything.  Some weight can go. Get the test ... it's a little odd, but it's important!  Literally a matter of life and death. Take care, Janice

Thanks Lizzie and Janice! It does make sense that your heart would pump better and more oxygen going through the system HAS to be better.  I've noticed also that all day long I seem to keep trying to take deep breaths.  As if I'm NOT getting the oxygen I need.  Of course being 300 pounds doesn't help.  But the anesthesiologist did say that I have a short neck which whether overweight or not, can lead to sleep apnea.  I never noticed this before, but my head kind of sits on my shoulders even when I was only 135 pounds at 5'6".  So I'm going to have the test.  Hopefully they can do it on a Fri. night because I have to get 4 school age kids off to school in the mornings. Thanks again!  I'd love to have energy again! LOri
