It's Monday, another week begins! Coloradoans are running a low fever these days now that the Rockies are within spitting distance of making it to the World Series.  Woohoo! The weather really turned into fall over the weekend, BRR!  Snow in the high country, slushy bits of moisture in my neck of the woods, not sure about PJ's side of town.  It was in the 40s yesterday, the 50s today, and I think it won't get much above 60 all week. I tried to go to the rec center twice this morning, and it was just too crowded.  Mondays are bad, anyway, but the colder weather must have driven people inside.  Frustrated, I went over to Kendrick Lake Park, which is a couple of blocks from my rec center, and walked the full mile around the lake! I had to stop three times briefly to rest my knees, but I made it!  Woohoo!  I did feel a bit inferior when I saw a couple of folks pass me by twice in the time it took me to walk the full mile, and one thin runner went past me six times.  Oy! I just might walk the lake again tomorrow.  I hear that walking isn't necessarily all that good in terms of exercise, but I certainly got my heart rate up while I was walking.  It was really pretty around the lake, too, with all the fall colors.  I obviously haven't done enough cardio lately with just the aquacise (warm pool aquacise doesn't include really intense cardio). What did you do to move your body today? Kix

Hi Kix....

I will ride my stationary bike tonite, watching the playoffs with my hubby.. GO ROCKIES....I know how exciting a city can get when their team is winning..It is sooo fun. I will ride at least 35 minutes tonite. I haven't been moving my body as much as I should and it shows on the scale... I will try and improve that this week. Have a great week  Lynn

I think walking can be excellent exercise Kix, and I know I'd be out as much as possible while its gorgeous autumn  in CO!  Walking doesn't burn as many calories as a lot of other options, but still its great for you.  I did 20 minutes on the bike this morning after a 10 minute warm-up walk and stretch session.  My heel is bothering me again, plantar fasciatis part 2 I guess.  I think its from the bike, but its possible that I'm changing my stride as I lose weight, or that my magic shoes are breaking down - I've worn the same sneakers nearly every day for 10 months.  Anyway, if this keeps up I'll have to go back to walking more and forget about the bike for a while.

Your walk sounds great, Kix; congrats on making it a mile!!!  As long as you are getting your heart rate up and keeping it up, walking is fine exercise.  For me, walking at a fast pace only gets my heart rate up around 100 BPM; since I'm aiming for the 130-140 BPM zone, it's not great for me.  But when the weather is nice, I enjoy being outdoors, and figure the benefit for mind, soul, and spirit is sufficient to make up for the so-so cardio workout I get from walking.   As for my exercise plans, I'm going to hit the gym after work.  I think I'll lift weights for upper and lower body, and may do 30 minutes of cardio if I have any oomph left after lifting weights.   Kellie

Kix,

Walking is great!  It is what our bodies are designed to do!

I walked for 35 mins this morning and have walked an additional 2 miles since.

Hi Kix, I did 1 hr 40 minutes of water aerobics, and 20 minutes of lap swimming.  Other than that, I really just sat and didn't move too much.  I'm working on sewing projects, so I did lots of up and down to the ironing board!
