Hi Marge,

Well this sunday is my 18th wedding anniversary. We are going to go the horse races.. I know it doesn't sound that romantic...but we enjoy it every now and then. Plus Sunday is dollar day there. Parking, admittance, beer and hotdogs all for $1.00 So my DH was all for it. Saturday I thought I might hit the mall and start some early christmas shopping. I haven't even started thinking about thanksgiving yet..guess I'd better get on the stick.

Have a great weekend everyone

Lynn

Phew, I just hugged our shih-tzu and he smells like unwashed armpit!  Looks like bathing the dogs will be one of my tasks this weekend!  One of our local TV stations is doing its annual food/clothing/cash drive tomorrow, it's called, "9 Cares Colorado Shares."  I have been weeding out my too-big clothes (I undergrew them before I had a chance to wear them) and will take them to the drop-off site along with a bunch of canned foods I pulled from our pantry.  If I can get my sister motivated to go through her closet, we'll have a nice pile of clothes to donate. The weather is supposed to be beautiful most of the weekend.  I think my sister has to work, so whatever I do will definitely be outside.  She actually wants to go to a movie on Sunday.  NO!  No indoor activities on a nice, sunny day!  She isn't as active as I am, she prefers being a vegetable. I'm going to Oakland on the 16th for an overnight trip.  My dear friend is retiring from the county and I'm flying down to attend her shindig.  Lucky for me, Southwest had a cheap fare. No time to meet Lynn during this trip, darn it.  Next time, Lynn, I hope to come up to Vallejo and have lunch if you're interested. Christmas in Hawaii is something else!  My first Christmas in Hawaii felt a bit odd, but I still enjoyed it.  New Year's is actually the bigger holiday in Hawaii because of the large Japanese population.  I certainly wouldn't turn down a chance to go, either!  Good for you Marge, for not making your daughter feel guilty. All your talk about Christmas is exhausting! I can't even muster enough enthusiasm to get out my Christmas cards, let alone actually send them! It doesn't help that I am out of town for both holidays and school is about to kill me, so I have no motivation to do anything related to turkeys or trees or misteltoe (although i wouldn't mind having some mistletoe for my cute study partner - the boy gets cuter everyday!) So, this is my weekend... Tonight I'm either going rock climbing or taking a pilates class, I have a college basketball tournament to go to (that's 3 games Saturday), I have a test on Monday I need to study for, I am suppose to go hiking all day Sunday and then somewhere in all of that I was hoping to get some sleep and get rid of this %&$# cold. I seriously doubt that will happen. I tell ya, this week has worn me out. I am in serious need of a day in bed. Just laying around in my pj's, watching movie after movie and eating bon bons . (ok, maybe not bon bons, but granola would work)

First...congrats on your 18th wedding anniversary Lynn! Thats a milestone these days. DH and I celebrate the SILVER this coming August! Its the 2nd time around for both of us...Much Better ! LOL What am I doing this weekend?  Hmmmmmm worrying, painting my hallway, laundry, did I mention worrying? Ummm, having a party for my grandson's birthday on Sunday, worrying...LOL Enough already...Seriously, I am going to keep myself very busy to avoid worrying about the surgery on Tuesday.  Just gave DH instructions on this web site so he can let you all know how my operation goes.  I have daffodil bulbs to plant and some shopping to do.  My MD wants me to have Milk of Magnesia and a Fleets enema on Monday. YUK! Oh well....easier than the colonoscopy clean out! Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Hey Marge, I'm sure I have some yummy Thanksgiving recipes, but I don't think they are anything unusual.  Everyone usually comments on the stuffing and the cranberry chutney.  I make stuffing with honey cornbread and also the dried white bread stuffing in the bag - apples, rum soaked raisins (or cognac is even better!), onion, celery, fresh rosemary, fresh sage, a little cinnamon, and apple cider or apple juice for the liquid, and butter.  Also we always brine our turkey and stuff it with apple, onion, rosemary and a couple of cinnamon sticks.  (Alton Brown's recipe from food network - see foodtv.com - it really is the best turkey I've ever had) Yummy.  We have always cooked the stuffing in a separate dish because my family is vegetarian.  I usually go all out for Thanksgiving, but this year its just the two of us and I can't eat much so it will be drastically tamed down.  My husband is concerned about this, but he says as long as I make my cranberry sauce he'll be ok.  I cook fresh cranberries with a ton of sugar (2-4 cups! brown and white, orange juice, orange zest and cognac, a cinnamon stick, and some salt) - after they all burst open I pour it in to a bowl and refrigerate, it becomes a soft jelly consistency as it cools from the pectin in the fruit.  I would get soooo sick from it, but I shall make it for my husband because one of the first things he said when I told him I wanted to have surgery was "But what about Thanksgiving?!"  Apparently its a highlight of his year.  Crazy man!  I love to cook, but surprisingly so far I don't really miss the eating part of it too much - I like feeding other people.  Actually I am trying to get my best friend to stay in town with her husband and 3 kids so we can split the Thanksgiving cooking and leftovers - her husband has to work (army nurse) so she was planning on abandoning him here to go back to her parents.  I'm trying to convince her to stay.  As for the weekend, we are going to visit my family in West Texas - a quick visit (drive through sat night, arrive sun morning, leave mon afternoon).  We also reserved a hotel room with an extra large jacuzzi tub so I plan to live in the bathtub.  How many baths can I fit in during our visit? I'm hoping at least 3...long.... long.... baths.
