New Year's Resolutions, anyone?

Happy New Year! I don't think I will call my list "resolutions," as I don't have a good history with resolutions.  The following equation applies:  Resolutions + Kix = failure by February 1. My goals for 2008: 1.  Lose these last 40 lbs 2.  Return to my daily exercise program (taking days off doesn't seem to benefit me) 3.  Stay away from bread.  Bread is the antiChrist. 4.  Be more thankful for what I have instead of moaning about what I don't have 5.  Find a good paying job! 6.  Try to be less envious of others. Great goals, Kix.  I'm with you on losing those last few pounds.  In 2007, I lost 30 pounds.  I'd like to lose another 20 over 2008.  It's slow and can be frustrating at this point, but it can be done.   Bread is the antiChrist?  And here I thought it was crackers...   Kellie

Great idea and something I have been thinking about - I already have my year sort of planned out in terms of activity, but it's good to write it down (it's just floating in my head right now). 1.  Run a 5K (in February or March), a 10K (in May) and a half marathon (in November) - of course these are all dependent on whether or not I actually start running outside - I am such a wimp! 2.  Climb at least 10 - 14ers (one of which will be with you, my dear ) 3.  Weigh 160 pounds and not gain tons at Christmas (ever again!) 4.  Train and run an Adventure Race (this was my original goal before surgery - I told my surgeon I was going to do one and I plan on it, even if it kills me!) For those who don't know what an adventure race is, it's like a triathalon with outdoor type of activities, like biking, trail running, paddling, rappeling, navigation skills, etc. They have day long ones that I can do (the hard core ones can go on for 2 weeks!) but I need to get certified, so I'm going to a camp in March to get my skills going and get certified. 5.  Take a mountaineering course and improve my rock climbing/outdoor skills - I want to be  outside this entire summer! 6.  Travel more! 7. Get Kix to go hiking with me!!!!!! I think that's it - knowing me I'll add a few as the year goes on. I'm pretty excited for this year, it's a whole new world for me!

Looks like I'd better add one more to my list: 7.  Try not to need Search and Rescue to haul my backside down the 14er that PJ plans to march me up to the top of, this summer!   Oh, and one more, since we seem to keep getting snow this season:  Learn how to snowshoe in the park. Kix

When you decide to snowshoe, contact me. I LOVED it and plan on buying snowshoes very soon! I would love to go out with you to a nice park and spend some time outside.

Wow, you've got a busy year planned, PJ!  I'm so impressed with your running efforts that I'm thinking about trying running myself.  (If anyone had ever suggested that I would run, unless being chased by a pack of wild dogs, I would have called them a crack-smoker!!!).   You're on for the 14er, which may kill me, but I'm going to attempt it anyway!  The Adventure Race sounds super cool - keep us posted on your efforts here.

I'm sure you'll get Kix to go hiking with you eventually Kellie

Whew, so it isn't me that PJ plans to march up to the top of that 14er!  Guess I misread that.   Just as well, I'm pretty sure I'm not 14er worthy yet, especially after today's wimpy exercise session. Kix

Hehe, you are cracking me up. We'll start slow for you, but you never know... you just might get hooked and want to come with me and Kellie on our big climb!

Get cracking, girlfriend, because if I'm hauling my booty all the way to Colorado to climb a 14er, you're going with me.  So get your butt back to the gym and start working it!!!  You've got 5-6 months to prepare, so get moving Kellie

I don't do resolutions but I do set some goals, most of which are ongoing 1.  Try to be a good and understanding spouse 2.  Work my butt off to finish my dissertation 3.  Keep the apartment clean Then, added this year 4.  Do something you never thought you'd do - like ride a roller coaster 5.  Take a vacation - a real one, where no school conferences are involved, and where I have to go on a plane :)
