The gym is open! I have an appointment with a personal trainer today (who looks to be all of 20 years old).  I think the appointment lasts an hour.  I also plan to do some treadmill work if my knees are up to it (the killer treadmill routine has left them a bit sore). Tonight is aquacise, so I'll be going to the rec center with my sister, too.   What did you do to move your body today? Kix

Hi, Kix.  How did your appointment with the personal trainer go?  I hope it was a positive experience and that you got some good ideas about what could be helpful to you!   My legs are feeling much better, so I went to the gym at lunch.  I lifted weights for upper body and did some core strengthening exercises as well.  I also did a good stretch of my quads, inner thighs, and hamstrings, which felt great.  The whole routine takes me just over an hour.   I will go back to the gym after work today for cardio - will do a mix of the elliptical trainer and the rowing machine, depending on what's available.  Am still really enjoying the rowing machine, and am already starting to see some better definition in my deltoids and upper back muscles.  Nice -  Kellie

I played my dancing video game for 40 minutes this morning.  I broke a sweat and had fun.  I think we are also going to go to a park in a little while to walk/hike.

I went to Bally's last night to see about the 8 weeks and was kind of disappointed - it was a nice club but so big - I'm so use to my nice, cozy, intimate place that it felt really weird. Then she told me that I had to sign up to get my 8 free weeks and I really didn't want to do that. So, I will probably stick to my place for a while. I did like the idea of a personal trainer so I'm interested to hear how your appt. goes. Have fun! I had a good workout today - I really needed it after yesterday. I was kind of worried I would start crying in the middle of it ****pt doing that before I even showed up at the gym!) but instead I got to business and by the end of the workout I realized I hadn't thought about anything but my aching legs. That was good. I did 10 minutes of walking for warmup, 30 minutes of weights and 35 minutes of the sprints. I was pretty excited that when I got to 6mph I was able to make it 2 minutes without feeling completely exhausted! That's a first, so I decided to add one more 2 minute spring at 6mph and I felt even better.  My ultimate goal is to be able to run 6mph all the time and I feel like I am on the way. Now I'm at work and trying to concentrate - it is actually nice today (what a change - this weather is killing me this year) and all I want to do is get outside in the sun. I know you can relate!

Hm, seems to me if you have to sign up to get the 8 free weeks, then it really isn't free and Discovery Channel shouldn't promote it as such.  Which club did you visit?  So far, I've been to Littleton (Bowles, ugh), Arvada (not bad) and Lakewood (my preferred club).  The Lakewood club is at Belmar and is brand new.  It's also smaller than the others, but it wouldn't make sense for you to drive all the way over there just to work out. The one on Bowles is where I encountered the snotty people and snotty staff.  I went to the Arvada club today because I was up in that part of town buying yarn.  Bowles and Arvada have lap pools -- I watched people do pool lap walking while working out in Arvada. I had to reschedule my personal trainer appt for next week because I had to go over to Red Rocks and kick some butt over their stupid online registration process.  It refused to let me drop my class.  Their whole web setup is so useless that I was shocked when I actually went over there and talked to actual people that said people knew their jobs very well. Oh, I almost forgot-- I saw a notice at the Arvada club announcing the annual Climb up that building downtown (I think the Lung Association promotes it as a fundraiser).  Their website is: runtherepublic.com and I thought of you the minute I pictured a bunch of people running up eleven billionty stairs for a good cause!  With all your 14ers under your belt now, what's eleven billionty stairs?  You can count on me for a pledge, too.  Kix

I went to the one on Santa Fe and Hampden - it's right down the road from work. It was nice and they were great, but I was wondering about the whole 8 free weeks thing. I was kind of surprised when she gave me a pass and said it was just for the first week while I "make up my mind." It's a great deal but I'm not willing to commit to anything at this time, especially since they don't open until 5am - i was looking for a 24 hour place that would accommodate my early, early mornings. I'll definitely look into the climb thing! Sounds just up my alley!

I went to the gym and did 100 reps on the rower and then I got on the elliptical and did 5 mins forward and the 5 mins backwards and pooped out!   So I went into the locker room to get my stuff and sat on the bench and said and I quote " Estelle DO NOT leave here without doing atleast 20 mins on that machine"  So I went out got back on and did 26 more mins!  I had to tell that story because well I usualy woulda just left so i'm going to pat myself on the back. Also the machine said that I worked off 300 calories in that 26 mins is that possible? Estelle

My friend at work does the elliptical every day for an hour (?!?!) and she says it usually says about 800 calories burned so I'm guessing yeah its probably close to right - although sometimes those estimates run high on programs like calorieking and fitday, I would think the machine would be more accurate.

If I did an hour on the elliptical, the friction from my fat thighs would spark a fire and the whole place would be incinerated way before the hour was up, in which case I'd burn much more than 800 calories!    (Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week) Kix
