Did This Ever Happen To Anyone????

I am 49 and about 6 weeks post op. Before surgery I was having hot flashes and my last period was in July of 07. I basically quit ovulating according to by gyn and was in the throws of menopause. Then boom I has lap ryn on 12/26/07 and about 2 weeks out I could swear I was ovulating. Well turns out I was right. All the hot flashes have gone since surgery and now I having a full blown period first one in seven months.  Did anything similar ever happen to anyone else????  Thanks in advance

We're about the same age.   I don't think you were actually in menopause.  Ot could have been perimenopause.  Also, when  a woman is extremely fat, the fat suppresses menstruation.  I didn't have a period for nearly a year when I was at my fattest.   Once I started losing weight, my periods came back.  At first, I was having periods every two weeks, which was not amusing!  They have regulated themselves now and arrive pretty much on time. Remember, too, that fat stores harbor estrogen, so you may have all sorts of weird female symptoms as the fat melts away.  It will straighten itself out, try to get through it! Kix

Thanks for that info I did not know any of this. Well I did like not having aunt flo in my life but the trade off isnt bad. Being healthier and slimmer is worth having our aunty around a few more years.

I am 52 and had not had a period in over a year.  While I was still in the hospital (24 days) I had a few days of light bleeding.  Don't know if it was related to the surgery or being NPO and not being able to take my psych meds one of which has the potential of suppressing menstruation.

Hi. It happened to me too. I am also 49, and was well into perimenopause. I was having about a drip per month, and no signs of ovulation. When I was about 4 months out, and over 100 lbs lost, I suddenly had a very heavy 6 day period. Then two weeks later I had awful ovulation pain, and had an ovarian cyst burst. The next month I went back to my drip, and since then have had only slight ovulation pain. I am praying my upcoming period will remain in the drip phase. -Julie
