Calorie Countdown - What's your plan for Fri, Sat, Sun?
on 3/7/08 1:39 am - San Antonio, TX
so we will celebrate Sun. If weather permits, I am taking some portraits of my friend's two little girls tomorrow at the park. Its sunny today, but still chilly and VERY windy. We shall see how it goes. Sunday we will be going to Shiraz, an upscale and very romantic Persian restaurant, to celebrate. I think it will probably be the first time I regret surgery, because I KNOW I will want to eat more than I will be able to. Their food is amazing, and Persian food has been my ultimate favorite since junior high/high school. My best friend at the time, Sara, is Iranian and her mother is the best cook EVER, at least in my experience. I am looking forward to Shiraz.
Other than that, maybe a movie, maybe some cleaning, maybe some work, maybe some napping. Maybe some shopping. Whatever the case, I will, as always, post my food choices in these threads. Will you? I hope so (Kellie is excused
for good posting behavior, and the whole what happens in Vegas stays there situation). B - ham, cheese, RF triscuits
S - iced SF NF carmel latte - homemede
S - turkey jerkey, banana Blood Sugar crash while out - darn it! It's been bad today? Ran into Starbucks (next door to were I was going) and had another Iced SF NF Carmel Latte.
L - Shelly's (Eggface) WONDERFUL Italian Bean Salad (I added shrimp) - it's to die for! 2 small bites of a KFC biscuit - I went out and got KFC for the girls in the office and was so proud I only had those two bites. The salad was so good I only wanted to eat it!
S - Kay's Naturals
D - baked burritto's we didn't have last night, salad
S - Shelly's Apple Berry Crumble

For people new to my nutrition posts - I track on thedailyplate.com because they have a lot of foods in their database. I've also used calorieking and fitday. From about 5 months out I try to keep calories around 1000. Some days are lower, some days are higher, but I like my weekly average to be less than 1100. I like protein from 75g to 110g (and I make sure I get at least 60). Fat I don'****ch too closely - I like it at about 35g/day (aim for 25-50g). If I keep my fat really low I seem to feel worse, have more constipation, and get very dry skin. Most surgeons say low-fat diet but that is one place I disagree somewhat. Moderate amounts of good fats are important, especially considering that we malabsorb some fat. I like my fat sources to be mostly olive oil, flax seed, nuts, and grapeseed oil. Fish is also a great source of good fats, although I'm not crazy about seafood. I limit saturated fats to cheese and lean meat as much as possible, but the occasional piece of chocolate has jumped into my mouth and if it fits into my calories for the day I will put a pat of butter on my veggies if I feel like it. I avoid high fructose corn syrup like the poison it is, and I try to be mindful that I don't eat much artificial sweetener or artificial anything else also. I aim to keep my carbs under 100g but they do creep up to 125g once or twice a week and that's ok to me as long as I got my protein in and didn't go over on calories. Usually they creep up when I eat a lot of legumes. Here is my personal theory on food as a post-op. Some people will not agree. Moderation in carbs and fat - neither one is evil but I try to get most of my calories from protein because protein is so important to us for satiety, healing, muscle maintenance, and health. I personally don't tolerate protein supplements well, but I am fortunate to be able to use a high protein milk essentially as a supplement. I firmly believe that my body deserves tasty QUALITY food. If I'm going to only get a little bit, it should be high quality, organic when possible, fresh, and preservative-free as much as possible. I will always love food, surgery didn't change that., so I want to focus on flavor and quality, instead of price and quantity. I deserve it. So do you.
