We Have Growth!

I mentioned recently that my sister and I spent an entire Sunday repotting and planting flowers.  A local realtor has been handing out free seeds to promote their real estate firm, so I took all the free seeds and threw them into pots with dirt.  Keep in mind that I'm not Johnny Appleseed's sister, in fact, plants don't usually care for me too much.

I came home today after my oral exam and watered the plants.  One of the pots has two little seedings peeking out of the dirt!  Woohoo!  I have no idea which seeds they are, but we'll find out if they actually grow to full seedhood.

There is something to be said for watching things grow.  My grandmother always grew her avacado seeds on the windowsill over her sink.  DId she do anything with them, nope.  But when asked about them she'd say - I like to watch things grow! Maybe your plants are a metaphor for your new beginning....a new job perhaps?!?

Way to go, Green Thumbelina.  I have problems with seedlings getting bugs, but if they make it through that, they usually grow great.  If you get a lawn of seedlings you might have to thin it out some to give the strongest one more room to spread out.

I kill things but am getting better.  I've got two tomato plants, a jalapeno plant, and an eggplant.  The eggplant had a bloom on it but it fell off with no fruit.  There's another bloom but I'm not sure it it will produce. I bought the pots that you water from the bottom and keeps  the plants hydrated.  I thought I killed a hosta over the winter because I left the sheets on forever when it got cold, but we threw it on the lawn and then it got green so we planted it in the ground and now it's beautiful.   Oh, and I killed all 5 of my hibiscus plants because I didn't uncover them either.  There was NO life left in them. I tried herbs last year from seeds and did ok with them, but killed them too over winter.   I'm a murderer!

I haven't done any real looking yet, I did take it to a couple of playgrounds, and found out the playgrounds in my area don't have sand or dirt, they have some sort of rubbery stuff.  I guess kids aren't allowed to fall and get rock burn from the gravel under the swings anymore.  I went to a local park and tried using it on the beach (Big Soda Lake), and the dirt was so hard I'd have needed a jackhammer to get to anything beeping!

I've decided to wait until next week and give it a try in South Dakota!  I think I'm also going to join a local metal detecting club, they go on outings.
