I'm supposed to go the gym after work for cardio, but it's gorgeous outside. Last night (Thursday) I just couldn't bear to be inside, so I went home and started out for a walk. I decided I'd try a little jogging after I had walked about 10 minutes, so I was warmed up. I actually managed to alternate jogging for 2 minutes, then walking for 2 minutes, for about 30 minutes total, then cooled down for about 5 minutes as I finished walking back home. It felt a little awkward to jog, I think because I've never really done it before, but I actually enjoyed myself. Because of the compression of the cartilage in my knees, I don't want to jog/run a lot, but it's nice to know I can do it once in a while!
We'll see what happens after work today. We had a team meeting at the park, followed by a picnic lunch, so I've eaten way more than I usually do. So could definitely use a solid cardio calorie burn after work... But it's gorgeous outside - sigh... Do what I should do? Do what I want to do? Do what I should do? Do what I want to do? Sigh -

Because I'm a dinosaur, the first thing that popped in my mind was the song by the Mamas and the Papas (You gotta goo where you want to go/Do what you want to do/With whoever you wanna do it with). What did you decide? Also, you have given me an idea that perhaps I might try jogging for brief periods. It might be a nice change-up when walking outside. I also have knee issues, so I'm curious as to how your knees felt afterwards.
I forgot to mention that in my job interview yesterday, one of the dudes on the interview panel moved here from Cleveland. It was almost like having you there cheering me on!

I'm with you sister - I've been up and down the past few months and it's starting to get a little crazy. The honeymoon is definitely over.
Nothing for me today, it's my off day. After yesterday, I needed a break.
Tomorrow I'm heading to Nederland to do an Orienteering meet - I've registered for two races, so I should have about 3 hours of running/hiking down for tomorrow.
I'm going to try orienteering on 6/29 with one of my buddies from the gym. Turns out someone she works with heads up the local orienteering chapter, so he's going to give us a quick "how-to" less next Monday, 6/23. Then we'll give it a go on 6/29. As long as they don't have to call out search and rescue to find us, I'll consider the event a success!
Let us know how your meeting Nederland goes over the weekend -

You will have so much fun! They call it the thinking sport so you should be a perfect fit. It's a great way to get outside, get some exercise and workout that brain. Just don't do what I did at my first meet - everyone kept telling me that there are lots of courses and a person running by you might be doing a different course, so to not follow them. Of course I saw someone run, felt challenged that he was going faster than me and started following the guy. 2 miles later I realized I had no idea where I was
- I had to backtrack the entire 2 miles and wasted a lot of time and felt kind of stupid. Lesson learned.
I'll be sure to report back!

Don't you miss the old days when we couldn't eat more than a spoonful of food?
Also, this reminds me that we've now known each other at least two years now, how about that?! Time sure flies.
My tool still works if I would just use it. I ate some buffalo for lunch and promptly horked it up (I think it was too dense), so I know my pouch isn't broken. What I need is a big dose of discipline. Where do we sign up for that?
I need to check out that link you sent me regarding the outdoor group. I tried hiking at a nearby open space and quickly discovered I lack proper footwear, I nearly slid down the hill. Oy!

I took the dogs to a nearby open space and we walked 1.5 miles. I think the weather was too hot for the poor shih-tzu, when we stopped halfway for a hydration break, he slurped up the entire bottle and then plopped under the bench. I ended up carrying him for part of the way, the lazy, overheated sod! Seriously, I need to be more aware of the heat since shih-tzus are short-snouted and can't cool off as efficiently as long-snouted dogs. At the beginning of our walk, we were interviewed by a student making a film about the open space for class. She asked several questions about the open space, and I joked that if I'd known I was going to be filmed, I'd have put on my Sunday best! She also filmed the dogs, both of whom are quite photogenic (unlike their aunt).
I am going to try and walk them every day, I think they enjoyed it. It looks like I'll be sitting the cattle dog again for ten days, so I may have to make two trips to the open space (can't walk three dogs at once, I'm not that talented). Besides, the extra walk will do me good.

I want to walk a dog *pout*
I want a dog badly. My husband doesn't like them, and we don't have the room right now anyway, but when we have a house we will have a dog. He just hasn't ever had one so he doesn't know how much fun they are. We always had a dog, a mutt, and since my mom was in the vet business and then subsequently opened a kennel, the dog just went to work with her every day. Still does. She has a weird little australian shepherd/pit bull/something small mutt now. Smart dog. Very mental though. She has confused instincts and guards things from the cat - she stole a bag of rice from the counter and guarded it from the cat for a week. Mom had to take it away eventually because she stopped eating - too busy keeping the cat from the rice. And table scraps. She eats them, she just hangs on to them for a few days first - taquitos are much better aged, and the cat might get it you know.
