Follow up post related to dumping
I was reading the post on dumping with great interest as this has been a topic I've been reading up on lately. I've been having some issues lately with "late" dumping, I think. Have a follow up appt next week, so will discuss then.
Anyway, my question for all of you...
How do you personally experience dumping? I've read the "official" definitions, but find more personalized descriptions so much more helpful since WLS.
Thanks!

I dump on foods that have 7 -8 grams of sugar per serving. I don't dump on fruit. I did ask the dietician and she says most people don't dump on natural sugars of fruit. It is the fructose and all of those sugar alcohols that I dump on. I usually avoid SF candies because if you look at the sugar alcohols they are very high. The dannon yogurts that you can drink read high in sugars but the bulk of them are in the lactose that at least my body can handle.
I don't actually "dump" as in diarrhea but I get monster headache and palpitations and just need to lay down for a while.
When I dump I first get clammy, shaky, and then start sweating profusely, my heart races, I feel as though I'm going to pass out, I've been told I get very pale, and I suddenly feel like I have to go to sleep. Usually an hour of sleep and I'm feeling better. A bad headache is what I wake up with and it lasts a while.
I never have had to go to the bathroom with dumping.

I dump on fruit sugars and sucrose for certain, and I also dump on fats. The feeling is hard to describe - I get sort of disoriented and shaky, light headed, a little bit nauseaus, there is sort of a tightness in my chest, and the most obvious of all is that my heart is beating like I just ran a sprint or something. It feels like its beating out of my chest. Once that passes I get quite tired and usually have to sleep. Like Jan, it doesn't make me have to use the bathroom, but sometimes it does make me quite sick to my stomach.
I don't know much about late dumping but you might also want to consider reading up about reactive hypoglycemia, because that happens an hour or two after you eat and seems to be emerging as a problem for a significant proportion of patients.

Thanks for all your input. After too many incidents about 1-2 hrs after eating, I really began to get suspicious. Of course my first reaction was something with my heart but then I saw the pattern. I did had the sense to remember to test my glucose but it was 105.

I have been eating summer fruits (berries, cantalope) and doing just fine. Then last week I had a plum and man did it ever make me dump! I had never dumped on sugar before since I have been very careful about what I consume. In fact, I did not realize that I had dumped and thought maybe my blood pressure meds needed to be lowered again. I had begun to think maybe I'm one of those people who have RNY and don't dump on sugar. So the next day - Miss Brilliant Here -- eats another plum as a mid-morning snack and bang same symptoms. Finally I figured out what I was doing to myself. Clammy, lightheaded, nausea and then I want to sleep. When I wake up, I'm fine. Frankly, I welcome the dumping -- just the thought of it will keep me on the straight and narrow.

My experience with dumping is different than the others. I dump on sugar too, about 8 gr is my limit. I have dumped on other things too, but I can eat them and not have any trouble, and then the next time I eat it, boom...
I get wicked cramps and nausea. I do end up in the bathroom. It's very painful for a few minutes because of the cramping. Once it's all out of my system, I'm fine. A bit tired, but I can go on with my day.
