Anyone having hair loss or major hair loss. I am to the point I am going to have my hair cut very short tomorrow. It is just falling out in clumps anymore. Not sure how I will respond to this. I have had long blond hair since the day I was born and nothing different. WOWO I am gunna Hait this but I think the shorter hair is what will help best at this point. Anyone have any other suggestions?.... My Dr says it will eventually grow back.

Do you take Biotin? It definately helps.. My hair is now growing back. Had it cut on Wednesday and my stylist told me that I have a huge amount of new growth thats about 1/4 " long.. She warned me that in the next few weeks my hair may start to get 'unruly' as the new growth get's longer.. LOL

Zinc and biotin can help with regrowth, but they won't stop the hair loss.  My hair loss started about 3 months post op and lasted for about 3 months.  I believe it has to do with the significant changes in our nutrition, especially the reduction in how much protein we eat (compared to what we ate before surgery).  It does get better over time - I'm almost 34 months post op and my hair is back to normal.  Good luck riding out the thinning period :-)

Hey Kathleen,

I was very fortunate with my GBS and didn't have any hair loss.  I did however, buy the Nioxxin line.  It makes your hair feel fuller.  I bought it one time only and started using it around 4 months.

I use biotin and zinc everyday, but when I had my hernia repaired and my panni I did lose some hair about 6 weeks out.

I think the biotin and zinc only work for certain people.  But try it you might one of the many.  And zinc does help you heal faster.

Good luck, and enjoy your new do.

I had hairloss for about 3 months. It was pretty significant amounts of hair, and a shorter haircut did help disguise it. Another thing a short haircut helped was when the new growth came in, it helped to blend it in with the older growth (new growth can look real fuzzy and soft and mine stuck straight up)

Protein protein protein. Your  hair loss is because your body was trying conserve as much protein as possible for healing after surgery - it shuts down the follicles, but you don't see it begin to fall out for a number of weeks after because it takes a little time for the hair to dislodge. Anesthesia can also cause hair loss on its own.  Protein will help your hair grow back once your body decides its not in any more danger and that it won't starve to death.
