Hi Kathleen!

I'm sorry I'm not gonna be any help, I've never had an ulcer or known anyone that had one.  Why do they think you have one? Just because you're losing rapidly?  I wish I could help.  I wonder what a bypass related ulcer is...a hole maybe at one of the attachment sites?

I hope you keep us posted on how you're doing!

It is an ulcer at the point where they attached the intestine to the stomach.. there is ALLOT more symptoms than just weight loss....  Not fun ones either... nausea ever since my surgery along with tooo dam much vomiting with nothing coming out with not being able to stop having the dry heaves for over an hour straight. When I do get food in it is not to comfortable and hard to get through the stomach to the intestine. And the unspeakable... The big D...diarrhea pretty much for the last 4 months straight. As well as a few other things.... All combined I guess means possible ulcer at the sight of the intestines. This is a known complication of a bypass but I guess I am one of those luck ones to get it. Anyone else out there been through it??

I am so sorry that you are sick.  I am over three years out.  I happen to have colitis.  I had what was the first bout of my colitis in two years followed with two weeks of dry heaves and or nausuea.  I also have food moving slowly through my pouch.  My pouch feels a little off.  I have seen my gastro doc and have a follow through with him next week.  Oddly I woke with a bad back ach this morning.   I didn't know who to call.  Kidney stones agian, a simple back ache.  I decided to run it by my interist and he will be drawing a bunch of labs per my WLS.  Oh and I had dry heaves all morning , but was able to eat a hearty dinner.  And the back quit hurting.  No gallbladder and normal BMs.  Go figure.  Srry, this has been all about me, but your symptoms are so like ine.  I hope you feel better soon and that your problem is easily treated.  Let us know what the test says.  Loris

Oh my, Kathleen - I knew you were having difficulties, but that sounds AWFUL!

I believe I've seen information about this on the complications or RNY board.

I did a search for "ulcer" with forums selected and found quite a few hits. Here's a recent one:

Hope this helps.

Kathleen, I haven't experienced any of what you've described, but I really feel for you.  It sounds just horrible.  I hope that you are able to get it repaired and get back on the mend soon.  Take care!

I haven't had this either, but I do work in the GI lab as a nurse and the ulcers we find can usually and fairly easily be treated with medicine.  The mucosal membranes are  pretty forgiving and provided the ulcer isn't so bad it hasn't made a complete hole through to the other side, or damaged the surrounding organs etc, it shouldn't be a problem.  Good luck.

Thanks CJ!! I did not know what was going to happen . Just told I needed the endo and why... If it is just a med that can fix it I am very happy about that.
