Calling the Creative

Ok friends, I need your help.  I have been invited to a Halloween party.  (I love that it falls a on Friday this year.)  It is optional to come dressed and every other year I would have been invited I would have opted out of dressing up.  However, it is a new year and I am reclaiming life one fun event at time.  Dressing for the Halloween party is part of the reclaimation!

So, here is where I need help.  I need ideas for my costume.  I went looking online and nothing suited my fancy.  It is my hope to figure out what I am going to dress as so I can begin constructing the costume (I know how to sew).  I don't really want the basic hide yourself in bunches of fabric costume such as a witch or a ghost.  I would like it to be unique but figure flattering.  Any ideas? Did you dress as something and had a blast pulling it off?  Let me know!

The most fun costume I ever did was Mimi from Drew Carey.  I had my blonde hair done, did the make-up and mimiced her clothes.  The outrageous part was that no one except my husband knew me at this party.  I had a blast.  You could get a cheap Marlilyn Monroe wig and do it up.   You could consider other TV characters like Carol Brady or Lucy or Peggy Bundy.  Wilma Flinstone would be fun too.  Let us know what you decide.

Not sure what Character most represents where I am right now in life - maybe I will work on thinking that through so that I can rock an impersonation of that person.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I am going to be a gypsy this year.  You can do it in a sexy manor without looking cheap :)

Are you putting the ensemble together or purchasing the costume?

I also need to come up with a costume. Last year I was a kitty cat, and I vamped it up. I just wore a black dress and tights, ears and a tail, but I went crazy with the makeup - fake glitter eyelashes, cat eye black eyeliner all the way around my eye, smokey eyes, etc.  I definitely emphasized the face, and I think I was a cutie :)

I am stuck this year though. I want something fun and unusual. I think the best costumes we ever did were when I was a kid - my entire family and our friends (about 30 people total) dressed as a box of crayons. We sewed all of the costumes, bought an old van (we had a few mechanics that BARELY got it running for about 4 days) and painted it like a crayon box. We all squeezed in and went trick or treating. Then the adults went to their party and the kid crayons went to bed. :)

I love the cat idea - I could totally pull that off with just a few accessories.  I love the crayon idea.  How neat an experience!!!  Love memories!

Hi,

I know that you said you didn't want to do a witch, but you can be a sexy witch or vampiress.  I used one of my black, empire wasted nightgowns that was a perfect and comfortable.  I have some chunky jewelry, did my hair in a tight twist with a bang hanging out curled on the side.  I then applied my makeup to look either slightly green for a witch or really pale for a vampire.  Drops of blood.  A great cape and at the time stilletto heels.

I didn't want to wear the frizzy out wig, I wanted a sleek look.

There is a website that I buy some dresses from that also have halloween costumes.  I never looked at the costumes as I don't do halloween anymore, even though you peaked my interest.

Whatever you decide please let us know what you decide and post some pictures.

Have fun.

Oops sorry, that would help  sanctuarie.net

I have never looked at the costume section so I hope it is not a disappointment.
